hi everyone. i really hope i have this in the right spot as this is my first time posting. and i apologize now for the long one. i had this all typed out yest and hit preview post and poof...i lost it all LOL.
i just want to say a month ago i made the decision to have all remaining teeth extracted and immediate dentures put in. yup, it was that quick from consult with my dentist, and Eday. they said the 16th and i was like oh crap. well at least i wont gain "holiday weight" LMAO. now i wish i would have had them wait till after the holidays. i have been reading this site for the last couple weeks and i just want to say that you all helped me SOOOO much and eased a lot of my fears from the get go. couldn't have asked for a better site....so a big THANK YOU to you all. we finally got insurance good enough to cover it all and i wasn't looking back.
i am a 40 year old married mom of 2 kids. i had a dentist decide to root canal ALL my back teeth a few years ago...why he would do that i have no clue and i was to young really to understand..um no you really shouldn't do that. now all i had left were my front teeth, and those were crumbling and fast. so made the decision and stuck to it.
i had my extractions done this past Wednesday, dec 16th. it is now the 19th, and i feel as though i am regretting it. any help would greatly be appreciated. i went through surgery with conscious sedation and really didn't have a prob with that at all. in fact the dentist said i actually fell asleep and was snoring for most of the hour long appt. they gave me a pill to take the night before, and a pill to take an hour before appt and those really didn't do a darn thing. i was a nervous wreck. dentist actually came out to waiting room to check on me cause he could see i was so nerved up. proly why they just let me sleep thru it instead of being conscious but zoned. went home and slept most of the afternoon. apparently i had a hard time with what ever they put in IV because i threw up 5 times between then and 6 am the following morning. couldn't keep anything down at all. went for 24 hour check up and he took them out and omg the pain. sanded a few spots down and popped them back in...here is where my probs begin
*i am more swollen now then i was after surgery and my chin started going numb yest. is this normal? its making my jaw stiff and i cant get it to go away?
*i am now aloud to take them out(especially to sleep and let gums heal) but i can NOT take them out and if i do get the guts to do it...putting them back in is just as bad. it hurts to the point that it drops me to the floor and i have to do the "Lamaze" breathing to ease myself. it seems there is a spot on top plate that is almost "hooked" and it goes into this spot on my gums where it almost "pops" into place. that spot makes me afraid to even attempt to take the out. if i ever get the nads to take them out i am half tempted to take my hubby's dremmel tool to it. could this be because im still swollen. will the swelling go down if i leave them in there, and then take them out cause swelling is down? i would have thought that would have started to decrease by now but i guess not? and it seems like the part that goes from gums to under nose is too tall in the effect i can feel it cutting into the upper part of my gum where it connects to my face. and i look like a monkey right there. all pushed out. im like where on earth is my lip....
*my bottom plate seems to have these "wings" as i call them on the inside under where my tongue sits. these in turn rub against my tongue when i move it and now tongue is horribly sore. feels swollen and almost like a swollen throat feels. id like to take the dremmel to those too LOL.
*how long till its safe to do a good swish with the salt water, and not worry about dry socket or dislodging a clot. i haven't had a tooth pulled in years and dont really know for sure. my bottoms have stitches along the front(as there was a little bone decay i believe he said and needed more working on), and tops have a couple stitches along where eye teeth were. he didnt put a lot of them up there casue he wanted to hgold the shape of gum more to make denture fit better. i am supposed to be taking them out, cleaning them, and swishing with salt water but because of the pain, and cant get them out...ive been kind of swishing the water behind denture pates so it at least gets to the gums a little.
* i have another appt dec 28th because of the holiday being on the day of when my next would have been, but i think i need to get in the beginning of this coming week. i dont know if i cant go a whole week over the holidays no less, being like this. he said to call if i have any issues, but to know i will have "some"issues. almost like if its a big issue call, but if its small we can take care of it the 28th...but my god what is small and what isnt...UGH!!!
thank you all SO much for reading and offering any advice you can for a newbie. i know the road is gonna be a long one...but this is discouraging
