A crown and gum recession

I have an old ceramic crown on my rear, upper right molar.

The gum is receding on the inner and rear edges of the tooth, so exposing some of the tooth and meaning that I need to pay particular attention to removing the plaque from the thin strip of exposed tooth.

Even with a small dental mirror and a thin interdental head on my electric toothbrush this is extremely tricky due to the location, I often can't remove all of the plaque.

I'm thinking of asking the dentist to cut off the crown and make a new one that fits perfectly, does this seem like the best option?

Or will I end up needing to repeat the process in a few years as the gum further recedes?

Or is there a better option?

Yes. Crown margins are generally "plaque traps" you ideally want them well away from the gingival margin.

Have you tried a single tufted toothbrush? Handy for tricky spaces.

Thanks Gordon. So there's no point in replacing the crown for one that fits better because the gum recession will continue?

The electric brush head I'm currently using is an Interspace (I got the name wrong and said Interdental) which has a cluster of three 'pointy bits'.

Assuming that the existing crown fits fine with no defects at the margin, then no point replacing it at all.

Yes, that's the beastie, just get the cheapest one you can find, they're all a muchness. They last for ages too!
