Anxiety About Upcoming Crown Procedure

@letsconnect Thank you . I don't use my teeth as tools and i don't chew on ice or anything. Good to know most foods are OK. How long did it take you to get used to the crown?

It took me about a week to adjust to the crown.I was very reristent to it.After about a week i adjusted to it but felt that it was still alien to ne.Yiu gradually adjust until you dont think about it.

@cassiesayers Thank you for sharing your experience. I thought it might take a while to get used to a crown. I keep telling myself its for the long term good and hopefully to save worse treatments and expensive down the line!

@RoseFlower Ideally it will be fine right from the start. However, I had to go back to get it adjusted because it was a little too high, and to get an edge smoothed off. So if you feel it’s off, don’t hesitate to go back to have it adjusted!

@letsconnect Thank you , Yes i hope so. The issue is that the final fit is just before Christmas and they are mostly closed after that until early Jan, so as it wont be classed as an emergency I will have to wait. Now feeling I should have waited until Jan, but I wanted it over with. Dentist is very good and careful so hope they get it right first time! So will be about 2 weeks if its not right..

I am expecting some soreness and gum tenderness anyway and for it to feel a bit odd at first. How long would you normally give it to see if its OK? What are the signs if its not a good fit ? Thank you.

I didn’t experience any soreness or gum tenderness. It’s more that my bite was slightly off - you’d notice! We’re talking tiny fractions of a millimetre here, but because our mouths are so sensitive, you’ll really notice it when it’s off.

@letsconnect Thank you for sharing. I hope I don't get gum issues. They were very sore after the filling and bleeding a bit and I don't have any gum disease or issues normally. I will watch out for any bite issues.
Oh well only a few days to go now, can't say I am looking forward to it. I am just trying to keep very busy now !!

Roseflower, Hello.. I'm so sorry, I thought I had answered you and I was noticing somehow I must not have clicked enter or something..Agh.. For my crowns, right away when they are fairly new I baby them and eat softer foods then they really are like normal teeth.. I don't eat toffee myself because I broke a tooth on Christmas day one year .. with hard Christmas toffee so ... that is a big no.. but pretty much anything else is really good for me. I have had dental work, crowns right around Thanksgiving ,Christmas and was nervous about timing and holidays and "what if's too. So identify with wanting to make sure all is good with holiday times.

Oh that must have been a difficult Christmas Day! Do not worry I will not be eating any toffees! Yes any work for anything around holiday times has additional concerns and what ifs. Due to sudden family illness I have delayed the procedure and dentist happy to monitor until its a better time.
