Hi, I only just had a filling today. My dentist hadn't apparently seen that one of my teeth had a hole in it, although I knew it was there for months (no pain though). Anyway, so today he put a filling in it, no injection needed he said as it was so shallow. So a couple minutes later, after a bit of drilling, he filled the hole. It felt a little strange, but nothing too bad. However later on, it felt as though someone had punched me in the mouth! You can see two patches of filling on either side of this tooth (upper left lateral incisor). It looks OK, but this odd pain isn't going away! It's not quite as bad as it was at first, but he seems to have somehow stuck the teeth on either side to this tooth! I tried flossing around it, but cannot get in, as there are no gaps around it anymore! I don't know if you know what I mean with this, but sometimes, a tooth will be misplaced and needs pushing back, forwards, or sideways to fix it and stop the pain. With the tooth now stuck though, I can't do that anymore and I think that is what is maybe causing the pain. It also feels a little bit numb, even though he didn't numb me up at all. I will probably have to call them tomorrow, but, as my anxiety is now almost through the roof, with worrying that he has maybe done something wrong, could you please (hopefully!) put my mind at rest about this so that I can sleep tonight? Is it normal to still have this pain, which isn't going away and is it normal to have teeth stuck together? I like flossing around them to clean them up, but cannot do this anymore. Should I ask him to fix this? If he can? Thanks for your help.

Hey Gilbo,

sorry to read how much anxiety this is giving you. I am not a dentist but after a filling in the front teeth, it can happen that flossing gets difficult. Your dentist should be able to fix it easily. Also, teeth can get a bit angry after a filling, that wouldn't be unusual either. I hope this helps you get some sleep tonight and the courage to make that call tomorrow!

All the best wishes

Thanks Enarete, that helps me breathe a bit more easily!
