Hi all. I had a root canal done a year ago. I didn't get the temporary out and the permanent filling placed until 7-8 weeks later (long story on the reason). At the time of initial root canal my tooth was not infected or abscessed. I was having a shooting pain and was told I had a crack in the tooth so I went with it. The root canal didn't solve my shooting pain. It turned out to be another issue. Anyways, the tooth has not yet been crowned (another long story). This tooth has been troublesome for some time after the root canal. I went to get it evaluated and I have an abscess at the root tip now that was not there before. I was suggested to get an apicoectomy. My question is is there some reason we would jump right to that? I thought you try a real do of the root canal first? The tooth does not have a crown yet but there was a post put in it. I guess I figure maybe I waited too long to get that temporary out which could have caused the tooth to get infected and subsequent abscess. I had a 3D scan of the tooth which didn't show root fracture. I'm thinking of getting a second opinion. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
