Are all canals re-done during a root canal retreatment?

I had a big abscess that was undiscovered for years, and had it root canalled, but the infection is not going down as seen on a CBCT scan.

My new endodontist is going to do a root canal retreatment, as he thinks an MB2 canal was missed, from looking at the scan.

I was wondering if all the canals have their filling removed, and are cleaned/disinfected and refilled, during a retreatment, or does the endodontist only retreat a part of the tooth - for example just one canal which gives them access to the area where the suspected unfilled canal is, leaving other filled canals untouched?

I feel like I'd prefer it if all of them were done, to get the entire tooth fully disinfected.

Normally yes all canals will be re-done.
