I first visited this site a few months back, when I thought I was the worst dental phobic there is, and thought noone could ever understand. I hadn't been to the dentist in over ten years and had so many broken teeth and was going thru infection after painful infection. And at 27, I thought I was the worst case when I finally went and got my dreaded diagnosis that only confirmed my fear. I needed at least 8 teeth extracted, 3 wisdom..4 root canals, countless fillings, 2 bridges and a serious deep cleaning. I was scared just hearing about it!
But I found strength from all of u on here who replied to my posts and signed finance forms to get it all done, that way there is no backing out or doing it half-as**d. After months of waiting to get medical clearance( the dentists thought I might have a bleeding disorder on top of my other health issues) I finally got cleared and started my treatment. In the meantime, I had two really bad infections that were sooo incredibly painful that when they cleared up, I was actually dying to get back into the chair and get it all started. Could not believe I was actually anxious to get it done and over with!
Anyway, my surgery is in one week and a few days ago I went in and got my first two root canals and will get my other two a few days before my surgery..btw my surgery will involve not just the extractions but bone grafts as well as my bone has become infected too. I once thought of this all as the end of the world and now I am actually excited to begin my new pain-free life.
The root canals calmed my fear alot because they were so simple and quick and absolutely no pain!! I don't understand now why people would always describe them as horrible experiences. I am just soooo amazed at how far Ive come with my phobia and what a relief it is to not be a scaredgirl anymore
