Let me start by saying that I take care of my teeth--I may not have always but for the last 4 years I've been extremely diligent in brushing (3x daily, flossing 2x , fluoride rinse daily). I've been getting regular cleanings for the last 4 years! Now last cleaning (April?) I was having sensitivity in a front tooth and saw brown spots and my dentist said it's just staining and the cleaning would take care of it. They did at xray and saw no decay.
Fast forward to now. I have had 2 (#2 and #30) root canaled and taken down practically down to the gum line for crown prep all in the past month. The pain has been relentless and I've been on painkillers since. Dentist has me on amoxicillin just in case (#30 isnt filled with gutta percha yet) and says the root canal xrays look great and there no infection.
Anyway.. this front tooth is sensitive to hot and cold and is getting sporadic shock-like pains a few times a day (I'm also getting these pains between another pair of teeth (#9&10 I believe). NO throbbing pains. Dentist did an xray and saw a tiny cavity and went in through the back and filled it (which by the way I felt the entire thing.. he was confused as to why I wasn't numbing and put it down to gum recession and told me to brush softer and less obsessively and use sensodyne and that will help.) Well, before him filling it, I expressed concern about the brown spot. Again--"It's staining! No cavity!" Well I called an endo to get a second opinion and when they called him to get my records, my dentist CALLED ME!! and told me to come in for another Xray, he doesn't want me to spend unnecessary money on a root canal because an endo will ALWAYS root canal a tooth. Well.. he said the thought he "might have" seen some cervical something (I forget the word, sorry) on the tooth but really didn't think so. He did the new xray higher up for the root and saw "nothing." He showed me and there is no decay--but Idk what I'm looking for! There is VISIBLY A CAVITY IN MY FRONT TOOTH! I KNOW IT'S NOT STAINING!!!!! STAINING DOES NOT HURT! Could he have taken it from a different angle to hide the decay from me for whatever reason? I am not sleeping at night over this. It's completely taken over my life. I could potentially be losing 3 to 4 teeth and I don't have the money to be doing all these appointments/RCTs/crowns/potentailly an implant if there is root decay. This is literally making me suicidal! I've started having chest pains! Oh--I should mention.. I'm 25 weeks pregnant and getting xrays left and right! Please help me!!! Am I making up the pains? He did do a composite filling but the shocking sensation is what is making me nervous? Is he lying to me about the "staining" in the tooth? I am so tired of worrying I can't take this anymore. I have an endo appointment on Friday but I am terrified of shelling out more money htat I DON'T HAVE!

it sounds like you're trapped in an absolute nightmare right now! As Spike said, I'm not qualified to answer this question, either. I can't really give you any advice, unfortunately. However, I personally would definitely try another dentist and have them do an xray. If it would make you feel better to have a second opinion then it would be worth the extra money. If you're really wound up before bed have some warm tea and maybe take a Benadryl or two before bed. Benadryl doesn't seem to make me sleepy but it works for other people. Things like this are especially hard when we've not had proper rest. Take care of yourself! Hopefully someone else can be of more help to you soon.
