Hi, it’s been a few months since I posted, following a traumatic molar extraction with delayed healing etc, among other things.
I plan to have an implant but was advised by several people that I would get a better outcome/function from this by sorting out some of my alignment issues first, that were more obvious after I lost the big molar. So am I now doing Invisalign, around 4 months into treatment.
The reason I’m giving that information is because in December I had a composite filling in a lower pre-molar, (next to the extracted molar) the dentist did say at the time it may remain sensitive for some time as it was bigger than he expected. It has always been sensitive to cold, warm/hot is ok. But recently I have noticed it’s felt more sensitive and I feel more ‘aware’ of it, if that makes sense.

My question is, this tooth has had quite a bit of movement due to the treatment I’m having, as it was already sensitive, is there a possibility that this movement of the tooth could be what’s exacerbating it? I appreciate it’s hard to say, just wondering if it could be a possibility. I only recent had a routine checkup and the dentist said the filling itself looked fine etc. obviously if it doesn’t settle I will have to go back, just getting a bit anxious because of what happened before.

Any insight greatly appreciated as always!

Gordon, I hope you are doing well?

I'm fine, thanks for asking. Yes, moving the tooth can make it a bit more sensitive, sometimes the gingiva (gums) can take a bit to reorganise themselves around the root or you can have a bit of extra root surface exposed due to the movement.

Try putting a thin smear of desensitising toothpaste into your Invisalign appliance every day for a bit, around the sensitive tooth, it won't get washed away so easily by your saliva so should be more effective. Try it for a week or so and if it's no better call your dentist.

I will do that, thanks so much Gordon, have a lovely weekend.
