Could it be sinus pain?

I have gotten to know the pain I get from the atypical facial pain now. I don’t usually panic anymore, just wait it out and it goes away.

I am in a panic now, though. Yesterday morning, I started having pain between my first and second molar on the upper right, which is not unusual. That is a common place I get pain. Occasionally it will hurt a bit when I bite with the first molar. Last dentist visit six months ago, he said all was fine. The pain yesterday exploded into throbbing and a lot of pressure, like sinus pressure but under the teeth.
I took a Tylenol, and a muscle relaxer, which was prescribed by my facial pain doctor. It abated to a dull ache and still pressure. No pain overnight. This morning the pressure has been building again, and it has a dull pain but hurts under my eye and between the molars again.

I don’t want to call my dentist in a panic for sinus pressure. However it is a lot more pain than I have ever felt, and the pressure is new.

Could it just be sinus related? Where I live, the pollen is crazy right now. Should I just call the dentist and explain?

You could ask if a dental x-ray would show if your sinus was full above that area.

I called the dentist yesterday and the receptionist said one of the assistants would call me back, but they never did.
I ended up taking some Benadryl and it eased although it is still painful. With the AFP, I don’t usually have the feeling of pressure, just pain or burning. Yesterday it got to where it felt like my upper two molars were being levered out.

Sounds like your sinus to me. Try getting in somewhere steamy (oh behave!) and see if it helps any. r

@Gordon ? Thanks for the advice. I took some more Benadryl and it feels tolerable now. This is the first year I have had allergies, but with everything covered with a thick layer of pollen (seriously, my blue truck looks yellow right now) I think sinus pain is feasible. I never thought I would be grateful for allergies, but I am so happy it isn’t my teeth.

@MountainMama allergies can be really debilitating. My 6 year old has the most awful allergies to pollen. His whole face and eyes swell up. Its so upsetting for him, he's only 6. I hope your pain eases soon and things settle

Poor kid! That sounds awful!

I grew up in a humid climate where allergies were common and I never had them. We moved around a bit, living in a higher altitude for awhile and now have moved to a new area that is warmer and more humid again. I now have allergies. They are not typically that bad…just a little congestion and itchy or watery eyes.
