I had a crown done a year ago without a root canal.
Pain has been there when I brush to the side of the tooth.. it’s a first molar and there no teeth behind it.. I lost 12 to atypical face pain. I have central sensitisation too so any pain that is normal to others, I feel ten fold where my nerves fire in response.

My dentist was not the one who removed my other teeth and he has point blank said before he will not extract any.

I don’t even have an appt yet. Scared to make it even though it will be a long wait.

What are you asking?

What can cause pain in a tooth that is crowned when there is no tooth behind it. Infront of it, the molar no4 is mostly filling and I am wondering if there is a cavity in that one causing referred pain. It is so hard for me to know how bad it is because of my central sensitisation.

Surely a crown shouldn't be causing pain just a year after being put in?

It's really hard to diagnose something without at least seeing it... having said that, it could just be some sensitivity, especially if the teeth immediately behind the crowned tooth have recently been extracted.

Thank you, Gordon. There has not been a tooth there for a long far, far before the crown, but The pain dulled down somewhat and is now moving around my mouth, so I think it is my neuralgia/atypical facial pain which presents as severe dental pain. It is really one of the worst conditions to have, and I have a lot!

It's horrible, there are a few people on here who suffer from it.
