Hi all

I am so glad i found this forum!!! Im so glad to see that people are feeling the same things I am, and im releived that im normal, even if i dont feel like it right now!

anyway, I had to go to a dentist on 2 january as the back of two of my lower teeth came away, because i have gum disease. I hadnt been to a dentist since I was 16 and that was MANY years ago (im 47 now so you can tell it was a while ago, lol) anyway, i was told my lower teeth have about 2 years shelf life, and my upper teeth will be about the same....

I am told I will have to have a deep clean etc. this terrifies me but not as much as the fear of losing my front teeth!!!! how will i eat? or smile or anything.. actually its all scary! ive been having panic attacks, and everything! and to top it off, ive just moved so i dont know anyone, so theres no one to chat with or anything.

My partner (who, teeth willing ill be marrying in October) says he will love me even if i dont have any teeth, . He is supportive tbut... im just basically absolutly at my wits end.. i think of my teeth constantly and i compare them to everyone elses! and omg its going to cost a FORTUNE.

anyway, ermm hello, sorry for the long post!

I've had full root planing (deep clean) before and it's not that bad at all. I think fillings are worse.

oooh thanks for this.... im still worried about the whole thing, but hopefully ill get through this !!! :-[

Welcome floaty!

I too was dangerously close to losing all my top teeth but I'm doing everything I can not to let that happen. I'd be lying if I said it was easy, just take a look at my very tedious journal, but slowly I'm getting there and getting over my phobia too.

I had a deep clean with oral sedation and local anesthietic so I didn't know it while it was happening! My pockets after where mostly 2's and 3's a couple 4's and one 5 and I was told before I had advanced gum disease.

You will get through it! No question about it, don't be afraid to ask for help, from your dentist, your OH, here. keep us posted along your journey

Thanks RP, i hadnt looked at the journals, but ill do that now! its so nice to find such helpful people who actually understand how it all feels and how scary it is.
