Dentist doesn't know what is wrong :(

You need another x-ray to see if anything has changed.....this is obvious....?
Do you mean you couldnt feel cold? (That means nerve has died maybe) or did you mean you didn't feel pain from the cold stimulus? But you are saying cold relives your pain, so why would you feel it to be painful?
What do I know, I'm not a dentist lol?

Sometimes when you get poor customer service, you just have to vote with your feet.

The cold thing was odd. I could feel something on the tooth, but it didn't feel cold. There was no pain either.

Got an appointment for 9am with the dentist I saw originally when he did my filling 3 months ago...will update then.

My OH thinks the water in mouth thing is good as it stops me from moaning about the pain!

Am back from dentist, but have to go back at midday

Original dentist who did my filling this time. He's very nice and gentle. Anyway, he had a good look at my X Ray and a fiddle around in my mouth. he did the cold test thing and I could feel it this time on all teeth.

He asked if I could pinpoint the tooth/teeth causing the pain. I said I thought the bottom was referred pain, and pointed to two teeth. Looking at the x ray its the two teeth that the cyst is sitting between.

he said that this is an odd presentation of a cyst as normally they attach to the root of one tooth but this is sat between two teeth roots.

Anyway, I have to go back at midday for the boss dentist to have a look. Luckily I've only had mild pain this morning....will see what happens.

Update.

I went back at midday. Boss dentist came in and was quite rough, feeling round my jaw and banging my teeth with a metal thing. The pain was identified as coming from a bottom molar (no. 6?) where they did a filling 3 months ago. Plan was referral to dental hospital for the cyst on the upper jaw and to remove the filling in the bottom molar, clean out and redo.

Had a shot of local and waited....they started drilling, the original dentist is lovely, but then I felt a stab of pain. Another local shot, another wait and start again....could still feel pain....another shot, another wait and still pain. So the hole has been packed with painkillers and a covering put on and I'm due back on Tuesday to try again.

Totally numb at the moment!

Ouch....hopefully will go much better when you go back. At least you were seen and they took you seriously.
However nice they are though, I really think you are adding extra risk with newly qualified dentists. It seems the principal dentist has taken a slightly different view as to which tooth needs treatment unless I have misunderstood.
Was the boss man gruff as well as rough...or just rough?

Just an update. I've had NO PAIN at all! Brilliant, so pleased it seems they correct tooth has been isolated. Annoying that it's the tooth they did a filling in 3 months ago....anyhow, am back tonight for the packing to be taken out. Hoping they can get it properly numb this time and get either the filling redone or a root canal done.
