Hi,

I haven’t been to the dentist in around 5 years. I have had 3 extractions (molars) many years ago and have a few fillings. Around 2 years ago a molar which had been filled broke at the gum line and the root remains however it is periodically painful and swollen. I have a few other cavities but I have recently noticed that I have a cavity forming at the gumline of one of my lower front teeth. I also have a build up of tartar and discolouration forming both behind and between my lower teeth. I am absolutely terrified of going to the dentist, more so because of the shame I feel over the state of my teeth at only 34 years old. I have a few questions and would hugely appreciate if anyone may be able to answer them. Firstly, what would the process be of removing the tooth that snapped at the root, there is now some gum formed over the broken tooth and very little remaining above gumline? Is it a simple procedure to fill a cavity at the gumline on a front tooth? The injections I had previously caused my heart rate to rocket and it felt like my heart would burst from my chest. I often feel my heart randomly “flutter” a lot and this worsens hugely with caffeine so I’m really worried about this, is there an alternative to the infection which has adrenaline? Also, I find it incredibly difficult to eat at this point, I am loosing weight fairly quickly because I can’t chew at the back I’m struggling to afford to get the necessities fixed and am unable to register with an NHS dentist, I assume dentures for my rear teeth are out of the question due to there expense? I have attached some photos if it helps. Thank you so, so much in advance.

Believe it or not, you're not particularly unusual in your fears, they're pretty common in fact. Have a read through here, you'll find they're all pretty much covered in there:

The mark on your front tooth looks more like tartar than decay, but it's a simple procedure to fill a cavity at the gum line, doesn't really matter which tooth :-)

Extracting roots is much easier than complete teeth.

Dentures for back teeth shouldn't be super expensive, but I'm a bit out of touch with current prices.

@Gordon thank you so much for your reply it has really helped to ease my mind. I have managed to get onto a waiting list for a local nhs dentist this morning so I’m hoping that I can get the ball rolling soon, it’s completely taking over my mind/thoughts at the moment. Thanks once again 🙂
