Ear clogged and a bit fo difficulty of swallowing after 3 weeks upper molar tooth extraction

Dear Everybody,
I had the right upper molar nr.1 extracted 3 weeks ago as the tooth was originally filled in a long time ago and the filling fell out then the tooth broke down.
So there were 2 smaller pieces of tooth extracted and also the 3rd bigger piece was extracted. It was an easy extraction, took 3 mins. The dentist pulled out the tooth and she told me she might not be able to do the extraction as my jaw is very narrow and the tooth is close to my sinus I guess, but she did it.

The place of the tooth healed very nicely though it was bleeding a lot directly after the extraction. Then 6 days after the extraction on the roof of my mouth close to he gum of the etxracted tooth
it felt like a tiny breadcrumb is stuck there, but it wasn`t I checked it with my tongue. Then I had clogged ear on the extraction side, sometimes a feeling of having a lump or something in my throat which sometimes makes me difficult to swallow on the right side. My gums were and are not inflammed. The little breadrcumb thing on the gum /roof of mouth changed it`s shape. It`s hardened and flattened or maybe moved away. It gets harder like the gum and when I touch it with my tongue I feel no pain at all.
Maybe it`s something in my gum, I remember used the gauze for 3 hours after extraction and it pulled my tooth when I changed it in every 20 mins as the dentist said. Every time I changed it ( it was dry , the dentist didn`t tell me I need to make it wet as I figured it out later and every time I changed it I felt a pain at one point around the area where the 3rd piece of tooth turned and twisted and extracted by the dentist.
Could you please tell me what is causing the clogged ear and the difficulty of swallowing sometimes on the side of the extraction? I am 3 weeks after the extraction now. The blood clot is developing nicely I can feel it with my tongue, but it`s still softer than the gum. Is that normal?
I am still doing the warm salt water rinsing since the 2nd day after the extraction.
I also developed something on to top of my tongue, like red patches, it feels like I burned it but didn`t eat anything like that not even spicy. What is that? Should I worry about that or it goes away by itself?

Thanks in advance for your answer

Judit, I'm sorry you are having difficutly. I'm not one of the dentists here but since you mentioned the sore throat it sounds like you could have a bit of an infection going. Please don't hesitate to call your dentist and let them know. You might just need an antibiotic. I sure hope you feel better soon. Let us know what they say.

Re: Ear clogged and a bit fo difficulty of swallowing after 3 weeks upper molar tooth extraction

Thank you Tabatha for answering me so fast,

Tomorrow I am going there, but the dentist want to do a filling or either root canal on another tooth. The receptionist couldn`t even tell me what is gonna be done tomorrow at my appointment.
The doctor cares as she called me the day after the extraction if everything was ok which is a nice thing though I don`t know if it` s a routin even though the receptionist called me.
That`s ok.
Last time when she pulled my tooth she told me she tries to extract my tooth if she can but she might sends me to a specialist if she can`t. She gave me the anaesthetic and boom, she extracted my tooth.
And now it looks like it`s infected.

I will see if tomorrow she will do the filling or not, but the most important is that I want the side of the extraction to be ok and healed properly than she can do the filling another time.

The receptionist is a unprofessional as I told her many times I would like the filling to be done as the dentist told me she might send me to a specialist with the other tooth which needs root canal.
I will see tomorrow what she says about my throught maybe more my right tonsil than the throat.

I am sure I will get the root canal done somewhere else and probably the filling too I will see what the dentist says tomorrow at least I will have an opinion. Then I will definitely go to another dentist if I see she doesn`t care about my pain or something like this, just wanna do the root canal or filling.

I will see.

Even last time it was really stressful to sit in the dentist chair knowing she is not sure to be able to pull out my tooth, but I just wanted to get it done. She did it anyway, but I am very curious what is causing the discomfort and just small pain in my throat.

Thanks again and I will let you know what the dentist say tomorrow.

Hi Judit... Please don't wait to call them. The sooner you get on an antibiotic the better. Will they still do your filling if you have an infection? Seems like they would want to wait until your infection clears up. Sorry, I know you want to get it over with. Please take care of yourself.

Re: Ear clogged and a bit fo difficulty of swallowing after 3 weeks upper molar tooth extraction

Thanks again,

I don`t know if they want to do the filling but if I feel any discomfort with swallowing I don`t let them do anything.
The pain is not much in my throat and it was gone for some days and it`s back again for some days again.
Sometimes I feel small pain in the gum of the extracted tooth, but the blood clot is there and it`s developing nicely, no swelling at all, just feel something inside is not ok and the strange map like redish spots on my tongue is new to me. Never happened to me before.
It might be a piece of gauze or amalgam from the old filling staid there as at the end of the extraction my tooth started to bleed a lot I looked at the dentist and the assistant they were surprised or they did something wrong or just didn t want to dig there after it started to bleed a lot they even forgot to say I can move the extraction is done.

I will see tomorrow and let you knwo how it went.
I don`t want the filling and root canal (those teeth are not hurting me so they can wait) if I feel the discomfort on the side of the extraction.
I want their opinion and then go to another dentist. I was thinking to ask the x-rays as my extracted tooth was still there it might be useful for the other dentist where I go if I do.

Thanks again

Re: Ear clogged and difficulty of swallowing after 3 weeks upper molar tooth extraction

Yes, I hope everything goes well.
Now I feel it`s difficult to swallow , try to put some Wicks on my throat under my ear neck, drink lots of water, rinse with salty water and try to sleep.

I don`t definitely want any other dental work done until the extraction side is healed as it`s difficult to swallow one side.

Thanks Tabatha again

Re: Ear clogged and a bit fo difficulty of swallowing after 3 weeks upper molar tooth extraction

You poor dear... you need some antibiotics. Try an ice pack and see if that will help reduce swelling along with the warm salt water rinses. Let us know how it goes tomorrow. So sorry you have such discomfort.

Re: Ear clogged and a bit fo difficulty of swallowing after 3 weeks upper molar tooth extraction

Hey, you are still here?
You are such a nice person helping here to ease our pain which sometimes I feel I also create it too in my head and it feels worse because I think about it too much.

I had a cup of ginger tea, not hot to avoid irritation in my mouth it reduces pain and inflammation.

It helps a bit I got the ice pack thing.
I am not sure I take painkillers as it feels better now , just go to sleep.

Good night (or if you are somewhere else ) Good day and many many thanks for being here with me and ease my pai by talking

Hi Judit, I'm so glad I could help in any way. I understand because I'm the biggest scaredy cat ever! The ice pack may help with the problem with your ear. I hope it does and that you get everything all sorted tomorrow. May you get plenty of rest tonight. :)

Re: Ear clogged and a bit fo difficulty of swallowing after 3 weeks upper molar tooth extraction

Hi there, Judit Have you been to the dentist yet ? I have been thinking of you all morning. I kniw just how much all this dental stuff can get you down. For years everything was great with me, and sailed through my 6 monthly checkups, then a dentist broke my root, when he re stuck my posted crown. After that everything seemed to go wrong. I was never scared of the dentist but now I am like you, worried over everything that goes wrong and feeling for thing all time making me full of anxiety.

Do let us know how you get on :hug5:

I agree Tabitha7 you are a lovely kind person, thanks for the encouraging thoughts in my post the other day too xx

Re: Ear clogged and a bit fo difficulty of swallowing after 3 weeks upper molar tooth extraction

Hi Swampiesue,

Thank you for your kind words and that you were thinking about me.

I just start to get into that dental journey, you are already in it. I hope with some antibiotics the infection will go away and it will be done, but I keep in mind not end and will visit dentists, specialists and maybe GP.
It all depends how the doctors are willing to help me and they know what they are doing if not they should let me know too. They are honest and caring at least.

I agree dental things can get messy even though we did everything what we could for our oal health.
I didn`t sleep much last night not really because of the pain. It was just hard to swallow and thinking of everything now that I might have a bit of a cold too I feel something started.

Here in Canada it`s the morning and I see the dentist this afternoon.

I hope I get some antibiotics or something I don`t want to go there for nothing.

I will see and will let you know guys what the dentist said.

Thanks again

Judit

Re: Ear clogged and a bit fo difficulty of swallowing after 3 weeks upper molar tooth extraction

Judit, what did you find out? Did you get to see your dentist?? Hope they gave you some antibiotics.

Re: Ear clogged and a bit fo difficulty of swallowing after 3 weeks upper molar tooth extraction

Hi Tabatha,

No I didn`t any antibiotics. Dentist said there is nothign there. She closed my nose with her fingers and told me to open my mouth and try to blow through my nose I couldn`t really do it. She got rid of some very old plaque on the tooth beside the extraction and asked me when was the last time I went to et my teeth cleaned it was 1 week before the extraction. So the hygienist in her office did a crappy job. Seh wanted to do a root canal and she told me I have 3 cavities, before i had only 1 and she told me I need a crown with the root canal she told me 1300$ only metal what they do. What`s that? I believed they have porcelain and other options even temporary crown.

I said I will think about it, but I know i will not going bac there again.

She gave me 2 names of oral and maxillofacial surgeons told me I can call them if I want, she took an x-ray of the extraction site and gave it to me.
Regarding my tongue she said it looks burnt even though I didn`t eat or drink anything like that.

So I am thinking to drink a Neo citran as I am caughing.
The dentist also said my sinus might be very sensitive as the root of the extracted tooth was close to that.
I feel I went there for nothing, but I can`t be pushy with them as i might need the copy of the old tooth.

So I will need to got to an oral surgeon.

And you Tabatha? How are you about your wizzie extractions coming up ?

So yo feel a bit more relaxed?

Take care
Judit

Re: Ear clogged and a bit fo difficulty of swallowing after 3 weeks upper molar tooth extraction

Wow, how did they explain the sore throat? I can't believe they didn't help you. I wouldn't go back either. Do you have another doctor you can go to? I'm still feeling scared to death about it. I guess it will be that way until it's over. I'm so afraid of being in pain.

Re: Ear clogged and a bit fo difficulty of swallowing after 3 weeks upper molar tooth extraction

Hi Tabatha:),

I am still here, drinking my Neo Citran.

They didn`t help me much and indeed the dentist finished the bad job of the hygienist. Unprofessional.
The assistant was the only caring person there and receptionist also started to get nice with me. I think she was unprofessional because the dentist was unprofessional.

I remember 2 days ago I had a headache what I usually get when i have a cold. And throat is hurting a bit. In the morning is better as I eat warm oatmeal with yogurt, honey and fruit puree. The honey does something good, it soothes my throat.
Last year when I worked in a daycare I got lots of germs, viruses I was sick very often it was more the stress of the job, lots of kids and stress. I took Neo Citran very otfen, tried to do not take it for more than 5 days as it says on the package. Then I bought herbal teas, echinacea worked very well. It`s also good for toothache and to strenghten your immune system, but not too much as it can cause other problems.
The sore throat came just today I didn`t tell them as I knew they will tell me to do to a GP which I will do it for sure as it`s free just go to a walk-in clinic. Then I will see what he says and then just after I will book an appointment with the surgeon to get the full jaw, neck and everything checked around the tooth.
As I need to pay for that I will do it after the GP checked me.

You know I was concentrating so much on telling the details of my problem that I actually forgot to ask her when I can chew on the extraction site.
I will need to search about it and when it heals I need to get the fillings done. I heard about to reverse naturally the tooth decay as on 2 teeth there are no wholes just black dots.
I will see, 2 molars need filling with another dentist for sure for now then decide about the root canal get it doen with a good specialist as I think it`s a wizzie the assistant told me it is while the doctor told me it`s not i guess she just wants to do the root canal as I asked her if it`s better to do a root canal or an extraction of a wisdom tooth.
I can`t believe how open I need to keep my ears and eyes as this dentist wanted to just sell me so many things in a way that I need it I just said I will think about it.
Anyway I will need to find another dentist. it`s the most difficult thing sometimes, but one opinion is always good, but more opinions are better.

I think you will be fine with the wizzie extraction. The assistant told me it might take 2 months to heal after a wizzie extraction. I read some people had ear clogged than popped out after some weeks.
Sometimes they feel other discomfort because othe sinus is close to the root.
I hope this is what`s happening to me.
The assistant actually seemed to be nice, but the dentist is trying to just sell, just like the hygienist she also came up with this motuhguard thing for better looking teeth. My teeth are not ugly. I told her yes I will think about it but teeth need to be healthy first.

Anyway I will not go back there only if I need copy fo x-ray or something else.
I don`t have another dentist. A friends of mine reccomended 2 dentists who are good, but they also wanna sell things, btu they are good though they had very little things to do on their mouth, not root canal.

And now I don`t even know I have wizzies or not, this dentist made me crazy because she wanted to do the root canal.

I am not happy with them.
I guess once i find a good dentist I will leave them a bad review.
People need to know what they pay for of they chose that dental office.

At least I can still move my jaw after the extraction and there is a blood clot getting harder at least.

Sorry for complaning a lot they just made me upset but I am sure I will come with more positivity very soon.

Thanks for your support Tabatha,

Could you relax a bit today?

Love,

Judit
