Hi all, I'm hoping someone might have some information about what kind of antibiotics one can take that are effective against dental infection - when one is allergic to all the normally prescribed antibiotics.
I have a history of miserable dental infections (I'm 25, and have averaged about 1 per year since age 12). I believe I have another one flaring up on a "watch and wait" tooth. I know they'll need to prescribe an antibiotic before a root canal can be performed. I've been allergic to penicillin and clindamycin for some time, so usually dentists/endodontists prescribe Keflex for me; however, I recently had an allergic rection to Ceftin (another cephalosporin) so I think Keflex is off the table now, too.
So what can you take if you can't take penicillin, clindamycin OR keflex?
I've also had Flagyl in the past, which I know is very effective against anerobes (which often cause dental infections) but the spectrum is pretty narrow, so they don't normally like to give that alone.
Thanks in advance for some advice!
