i have to get tooth #30 extracted with a bone graft in august. i am absolutely terrified. i’ve never had any tooth extracted before but a root canal from 2011 has failed me. i tried to get the root canal redone in december, didn’t work. i then tried an apicoectomy as a last ditch effort and the endodontist opened me up, saw how much bone loss i had, and said if he completed the procedure it wouldn’t work. so he sewed me back up. recovery for that wasn’t horrible and im hoping the extraction/bone graft recovery will be okay… but what im really afraid of is the surgery. when i had to get two cavities filled near this tooth a month ago, it took SIX shots to get me numb. i am SO scared i wont be numb during this and ill feel it. this anxiety is consuming me. i have nightmares about it. i have started grinding my teeth on this side now during sleep. the oral surgeon said he’ll have me take antibiotics for a week before the procedure because the infection is the reason why it took so much to get me numb. will antibiotics make the numbing work better? i did get numb during the apicoectomy just fine… but he said he noticed me flinch a little bit when he went too deep down. i think he said it was the nerve and he didn’t want to damage it and its part of the reason he stopped. PLEASE i need some reassurance. im terrified.
