Fear that white cloudy area might be cancer

Hi, M27 here. So I recently went to a dentist and got my X-ray done. After diagnosing that, he told me to get a second opinion from another dentist, as the white cloudy area near my lower gums struck some doubt in his mind. When asked, he said it could be a benign cyst.
Now I’m afraid to go see another dentist as in what if he confirms that it is indeed a cyst. Regarding my family’s medical history, my mother had breast cancer and she lost her entire left breast after they removed the tumour. My little sister also got some lumps in her breast. Can cancer change form from one generation to other? Also if it is cancer in my gums, is my entire jaw gonna get removed to get rid of it? Please help

Cysts are normally fluid filled and would show up as dark areas on an x-ray. That's not likely to be a cyst. Oral cancers are thankfully fairly rare, they also don't tend to show up as light areas on an x-ray, so I really don't think you need to worry about that.

Honestly, the first thing I'd probably do here is repeat the x-ray, that could well be some kind of processing error...

I'd hope if your dentist doesn't know what it is then they'd be referring you to somebody else for a diagnosis, not just leaving you to randomly pick somebody out the phone book
