So as the title mentions.. I have been absolutely terrified of my upper top back molar extraction.. I knew I probably wouldn't feel the actual extraction.. but the palatal injection I was terrified of.
My dentist referred me for iv sedation at the dental institute at my local hospital. on my assessment day I explained to the oral surgeon my fears regarding the pain of a palatal and how I find the nerve blocks absolutely horrendous.
After listening to me waffling on lol, he then told me he has a technique he would like to try, that would avoid the pain of the palatal. I agreed.
it's called a intrapapilary.. they start by using topical numbing gel and inject the buccal side (cheek side) making that side of your gums numb.. then injecting through the gum between the teeth to the palatal area. They then use the blanched gum on the palatal side to do the palatal injection, and I swear to you I hardly felt a thing!!
Yes I was sedated but I was aware enough to remember and I barely felt a thing. I remember asking him if that was all the injections I was having and he said yes. I must if then relaxed because everything was vague after that. I just wanted to share this story for others who are terrified of the palatal injection.
