I havent been on this site in 3 years and in that time i havent had a single dental problem. Being a manic depressive with ocd and anxitity disorder, also being morbidly obese, i know in my heart in the past few yeas, espically 2012 i have come a huge way.
Let me start at the begining. Those of you few that might remember me, i was a chronic ocd poster about my teeth. I would obsess over them for days on end and i finally saught treatment, got what needed to be done, and totally dedicated myself to taking the best care of my teeth as i can. I eat very little sugar, brush and floss 2-3 times a day ans eat nothing overtly hard and drink nothing but water and when i went to my old dentist my checkups were all good.
How ever i felt i couldent really depend on my old dentist as i feel that they just dident seem to care. I was just a source of income to them, not a person and desided to go elesewear. But being how uptight about my teeth i am, i figured with my through self care i could skip a year or too of checkups, as i could not find a decent dentist.
In that time, i continued my efforts to better improve myself. I went in just 14 months weighing iver 506 pounds to 354 as of this weeks weigh in using hard work, exercise and a low carb diet (under medical supervision). And as hard as its been both physically and mentally ive never been more proud of what i can acomplish, all while daily batteling the ocd and depression and severe anxitity.
Ive learned in the past few years not to run from a problem but to face it head on. Delaying will only make things worse. Its prehapse a lession ive learned TOO WELL.
Recently i was playing a game of basketball and i was knocked in the mouth and chipped 2 teeth (upper and lower on oppisit sides). Both chips are very minor and dont extend beyond the enamel. I saw a local nearby dentist as i was unhappy with my old dentist and just wanted to try someone elese, espically one that took my state disability insurrance and was close by, to be reassured that if any sudden problems were to come up i wouldent have to drive all over long island to a dentist.
While my brief exame told me i was ok, i feel totally dissatsified. While no real pain and the chips are barely noticable my anxitity over my teeth has returned and in force. I find myself having frequent panic attacks, offen hourly, im trembling with fear over what if....and examing my teeth and barely eating to the point where im quite possably starving myself.
At this weeks weigh in i dropped 5 pounds. Now normally that would be a huge acomplishment for me as my average weight loss is 2-3 per week, but its the result of me eating just sugar free jello and low sugar whipped cream.
I have spoken to my therapist, and still i feel unsatsified. Im debaiting weather checking into a psycathric ward and the only reason i dont is i dont want medication to make me damage my teeth or make me regain weight.
Im not in general afrade of going to the dentist. Im more scared of what happens if i dont go or i am forced to wait or have an incommpentent dentist who does more harm then good.
I made a phone call to medicade asking if i would be alowed to get a 2nd oppion n shop around for a better dentist to help reassure my anxitiy.
Again im not so scared of getting any work done, i figure if it needs to be done, and it saves me pain and embarassment in the future then im all for it ill solder up and endure it if its a proactive quest.
Its just im under so much anxitity and stress right now, i feel so self concious that its takinga physical toll on me. I have a physical and another therapy appointment schedualed for next thursday and if medicade lets me i plan on finding another dentist that will suit my needs but the fear flows through me endlessly. I know logically the problem is so minor its not even worth thinking about. The worse i would need is a tiny filling or some enamel reshappening, but im terrified of hidden unseen dangers due to negligent uncaring unprofessional dentists who only see me as a source of revenue and not a person whos put in so much effort into turning around my life.
Any advice here would be greatly appricated.
