Filling Between Molars Different?

Hi,

I am new and happy to be a member. I feel really ridiculous about putting off a filling now for about a year...I have a nearly perfect mouth in my mid-thirties , two tiny fillings, but huge dental fear. Lots of ortho as a kid and bad experiences like many of you here.

Can anyone tell me, is it worse to have your teeth filled between the molars? Obviously they drill differently, but isn't it a lot more major than flat or occlusal fillings???

I have a major fear of needles and gas. I don't like losing control. My dentist has been very patient but has told me it is time to stop putting it off. Offered me the nitrous and Valium to bribe me into the chair. I know I have to do it soon, now but is it different? Anyone who has been through it?

I have had fillings between the molars but they were either a long time ago or I was put out, either way I'm afraid I don't remember much about them. I'm sure it isn't too much different from other fillings, otherwise my dentist would have charged more for them! You may want to post in the dental questions section so that you can get an answer from one of the dentists. They are kind enough to give their time and share their expertise and will be able to provide you with the facts.

Two tiny fillings? I'm jealous!! I think I may have two teeth that don't have fillings! Unfortunately that is the main reason for my dental fear, every time I went it was more and more work! Even with your fear you must be very diligent about keeping up with your dental health, so good for you!

Thank you, I will post in the correct place again. Hopefully I can do this soon, I really am grateful for the teeth I have, but I have to remember I am going to probably have to start dealing with more as I get older. I think sedation dentistry is fine but I have the fear of losing control too. Most doctors must just roll their eyes at me and think, "god it's just a filling, chill," but...can't seem to do that.

I have had lots of experience with Fillings in the past two years! Roughly about 7 both on biting surfaces and in between teeth, and to be honest there really isn't too much difference since you are numb! The only thing I would say that is different between the two types is that the ones that are between the teeth do normally take a little longer as the location is a little harder to access and normally you feel a little bit of pressure on the tooth because they normally use a type of 'spacer' to have better access to the area but it doesn't hurt at all...just some temporary pressure that feels like u have something stuck between your teeth but in time the tooth adjusts and the sensation goes away. All in all, tho the only sensation you should feel besides pressure is just a little vibration if you are properly numb, and I was scared to death of these myself and did it with no nitrous or anti-anxiety meds ...nothing much worse then that of a regular filling!
