Filling turned into a temp. root canal :( Help

I was all set to get my filling done and move on with my life but of course the dentist found i need a root canal and cleaned the tooth roots and put in a temp. filling. I am mad, she should've known before i went through with this but now i not only have to find a dentist that does with sedation but pay for all of it as well, as if going through with it wasn't enough. I just want to give up but of course i can't. I am tired, very hungry now and sore as the freezing has come out now. i will stick with soft foods but wasn't planning to be on this diet for days/weeks but i am afraid to even chew on the good side. Help, how can i get over the anger?

To be fair to the dentist, you don't always know in advance if a filling is going to be deeper than you first thought.

The good news is you're past the trickiest and potentially most painful part of a root canal, getting access to the canals is the worst bit and that's done.

So true Gordon, I've had a few of those... it is a bummer when it happens and throws things a bit off course in your mind and dealing with things when you're the patient and it comes unexpected.. I have had two of those myself, this summer. One is still an ongoing root canal treatment/retreatment and the other is going to get extracted, since I don't want to deal with another root canal. Both times were supposed to be a simple filling, but the decay was deeper than expected.

Yeah, like Gordon said, if you have already had the roots cleaned, the worst is over.

thanks, sadly as i'm on gov't assistance and not many dentists even want to see you if you have it so even finding someone who will do it in BC, Canada, esp. with sedation, is proving to be hard so it may take awhile until I can get it done. I will probably have to pay up to $2000 just for the root canal, which is crazy, as the crown will be another $1200! way too much for one tooth and not sure if I can afford that. I also want it done properly so just don't want to go to any dentist, i'd rather have someone who at least does a lot and will do it right.

I understand. I have a lot of bills coming in right now for my failed root canal, and subsequent retreatments. It is ridiculously expensive. I opted for conscious sedation for the first part, which you already had done.

If you are not having pain, it won't hurt to wait awhile. Also, the second part is not any worse than a filling (even better as there isn't the drilling), so there isn't nearly as much anxiety involved. I have huge anxiety when it comes to procedures like this, but I was able to get the re-root done today without sedation, as I can't afford it anymore. The retreatment today was at no cost.

thanks. I am going to find out if i can get extra coverage, thankfully i haven't had much work this year so i may still have some money i can claim. I am trying to take it one step at a time, right now it's finding a local dentist and hope i don't have pain so i don't have to rush this week to find someone. Eating soft foods is abit annoying and on one side but i guess i will have to do it. Our thanksgiving is Oct. 8th but will find some way to eat Turkey, i look forward to that the most and can't have that day ruined by a stupid tooth!

Oh that was just the tip of the expenses. Lol. This has been the summer of dental work. Root canal, retreatments, impacted wisdom tooth extraction, apicoectomy, and now another tooth that has a nerve dying. It already hurts, but I can't get in to extract it for a month or longer. Teeth really put a damper on things sometimes.
