Fillings on Exposed Roots?

My dentist wants to place fillings on some exposed roots. He says he will need to "roughen up" the root to have the filling stick, and he does not plan to use novacaine. I've had some bad dental experiences, and I'm nervous about this...scale of 1-10 how bad will this hurt? (Also, he does not use gas). Thanks.

Hi I would just like to welcome you to the forum

I don't have an answer for you as I am not a dentist. Hopefully one of the dentists will be along soon to put your mind as rest. I think in your position I would prefer to be numb but I don't understand what the dentist is doing, could you ask them to explain the procedure and also why it won't hurt or cause discomfort before they start.
