Hi,

I am new here *waves*, hope everyone has had a good Christmas.

Anyway as the thread title says . . I have a fine fine FINE piece of dental floss stuck between my teeth; lower L, teeth 5 and 6! I was flossing as normal last week Sunday and the floss shredded. I began to panic so went over it, thinking this would remove the shredded piece but to my horror for the piece to actually not come out. I have tried everything possible; toothpick, oil pulling, warm salt water, thinner dental floss, putting a knot in the floss, interdental brush, chewing gum but nothing is moving it! As a result, my teeth are hurting, they're on 'edge', the pressure is now becoming unbearable and I've had odd sharp pains in the gum today. Because I am poking and prodding it, the gum area is now slightly red, and I don't really to keep poking it and cause / create an infection for myself.

I am feeling incredibly miserable because I can't enjoy my food properly, and I just want my teeth to go back to 'normal'. I have been to the dentist, and he can't see it (which I didn't think he would because when I say fine, I mean FINE . .it's not visible to the naked eye). Friends I have spoken to have suggested things I've already tried, but I am running out of ideas. The floss kind of feels like it's stuck in the soft tissue / gum area, but I cannot see it to remove it.

So does anyone else have any suggestions?? Help . . (I have attached a picture of my teeth, and circled the teeth I am referring to).

If the dentist couldn't see anything maybe nothing is there and something else is causing the problem. Outside of gum issues is there proof it does exist like can you feel it with you're tongue? I have a habit of biting on my lower lip facial hair when it's too long and needs trimming. One time a hair got stuck between tooth and gum so I know that type of panic. It took a day for it to eventually shift a little to one side of the tooth to where my tongue could grip and slide it out. I won't eat pop corn because those kernels are pure torture but at least they come out.

I'll throw something crazy out there but I honestly can't recommend it. Do at you're own risk and probably something better out there. Maybe if someone was seriously desperate they could try this. I collect cacti and succulents. Opuntia microdasys have fuzzy looking patches half the size of a pencil eraser spread throughout it's body. Each one must have about 100 very very fine needles. The first day I owned one (teenager) in the passenger seat on the way home it lightly bumped my nose going over a pot hole. Tweezers would not have gotten them all since they are so small you could barely see them. Burned a candle and poured the wax over it. They come off with the wax and it's only hot for a split second but maybe flesh inside the mouth is too tender. The position of the floss would have to be optimal. Not clamped between two teeth or stuck between and under, sticking out. Any friction or lack of something to hold onto it would be instant fail.

Consider that a stupid idea. It too crazy, right? Glad we agree.

Very fine tweezers? Or a scaling tool?

You might have it stuck under the gums (could be why the dentist can't see it???) and using something to scrape against the tooth might help to get the floss loose.

Also, you could try to buy a Water Flosser to blast it out with water. I love using my water flosser anyways, so it might be a good alternative for you (you won't ever get floss stuck inbetween your teeth again!). Mine has an attachment used for deep tooth pockets, which helps to get water under the gums a bit. They are a bit pricy (I think mine was about $40), but they are pretty easy to find in stores like Target, Wal-mart, etc.

I was going to suggest a waterpik then I was beaten to it. It could be that the floss is no longer there and that the gum is sore and has left you feeling like it is. Once the gums are irritated it can take a while for them to stop hurting.

I can feel the pressure of it still there. I know the dentist said he can't see it, but I know when something is stuck in my gnashers, something is stuck! lol My teeth are very tight which is why I am having this problem :(.

It's definitely stuck under the gum, that's where it feels most irritated, and that's the bit I cannot see / get to! :(

This has to be thee most annoying pain I've ever endured! :(

Go back to the dentist and ask them to try and flush this floss out of your gum. I know they can't see it but if they could blast it in the area you are saying it is in maybe it will dislodge it.

It is one of the most horrible feelings to have. I think we have all had something stuck between our teeth making them feel tight so most of us will know how you are feeling. You could also ask the dentist to do a deep clean around that tooth to see if that helps. If your dentist doesn't do cleans then maybe if you see a hygienist and ask them to have a look and do a deep clean.

I hope you get this sorted soon. All the best to you.
