Hi All

Hope you can give some guidance.

Been to the dentist today with teeth in such a state (dental phobia as a child!) Anyway, the plan is, fillings and root extractions as teeth have broken badly at upper (upto both canines) and bottom back (2 big molars on each side).

She has recommended a partial upper and lower to be fitted after 2-3 months after gums have healed.

2 things I am scared about. 1) Will may face sag awfully before partial dentures (i'm only 32!) given that there are only roots in most places anyway and 2) How will my top partial fit, will it slip as its back teeth on both sides and will the clips be very visible?

Sorry to bombard, hope you can help!

Hi, just wanted to pop in and say you'll be fine. I'm on a journey pretty similar to yours, up to now I've had most of my back teeth removed, I avoided the dentist for way too long .

I'm not finished yet, next week is my last appointment (at least I hope so anyway) so this time next week I'll be sat with my dentures - I'm only 32 too (eeek!). I don't think your face will change too much if you're down to the roots already - I think it depends on how the gums change as well, although someone may correct me. Most of all you'll be able to open your mouth again without having to worry about what people can see . Have you been given a treatment plan ... when does your treatment start? Please come back and let us know x

Hi, I have now a full denture at the age of 45. My remaining three teeth were taken out two weeks ago.

I have not noticed my face change shape at all.....so no need to worry about that.

:)

I had back teeth and one front tooth removed and an immediate partial put in 3 weeks ago. There is no difference to face shape ,the clips on my partial are gum colored and you really cannot notice them .Takes a bit of getting used to ,but am so glad i had it done and you will too.:)

Thanks for all of your replies, it has helped knowing I am not alone!

Strawberry Tart- Were your tooth coloured clips on NHS? Am so conscious about metal clasps!

Icandothis- Sounds like we are in the same boat together, my treatment starts on 25/11 for extractions of roots etc, then fillings and treating my gums. They don't want to put an immediate in as they want my gums to heal, I don't really have to worry about that as I am managing without at the moment anyway. Quite thankful that I can get away with fillings on my front 6, they are a little chipped but are in tact! Let me know how you get on!!!

Will be nice to smile again;D
I will keep you updated!

Yes,my dentures were done on the NHS ,was really nervous because i thought you would be able to tell the difference between them and my remaining teeth ,but they look really natural ,color match really good!! ;D

Just a quick update, had my upper back teeth and roots removed today, not looking forward to eating! Not as traumatic as I was expecting although not exactly pleasant!

Back for round 2 removing 1 on each lower side on 16th Dec, then on my way to a healthy mouth once my gums have healed.

I thought I would be more conscious but I think that it being only my back teeth affected has helped as there is only me that knows.

Any one else have a partial upper and lower and how are you coping?

Well done you!!!! How many teeth/roots have you had removed ?

I've upper and lower partial, had them for nearly two weeks now, top is ok(ish), bottom is an absolute nightmare, cant even wear it, don't even bother trying very often . Am waiting for my gums to do whatever shrinking/healing they see fit then I plan on getting a replacement private partial denture

Was the remnants of 3 back upper teeth on either side and the roots. Am now in a fair amount of pain and the swelling isn't good either! Go back to have 2 bottom back teeth removed on 16/12, then I have to wait for my partial, as dentist wants gums to heal.

Was yours an immediate partial?

Yes, mine are immediate partials.

The worse swelling I had was after the first round of extractions, for some reason my others didn't swell as much?? Have you had the impressions for the dentures done yet?

Hi

No not yet, still have to have some more extractions. My dentist advised against immediates as your gums swell and shrink, she wants me to let my gums heal, so hopefully have them by end of Jan and I suppose since you can't really tell I don't have any back teeth and there are only a few people that know. Just makes eating a little tricky!

Have yours settled down any? x
