Hello to all! I'm Kelly. New to the forum and looking for advice. Some background. . .
I'm 37, female and of averame intelligence. I have recently accepted the fact that I am losing my eyesight. I'm afraid my phsyche cannot handle being blind AND toothless so I have decided to change the one thing I do have control over. I still have 19 of my own teeth. Mostly still there by the powers of suction, gravity and will. I have an appointment for an evaluation for full extraction and immediate dentures. I an terrified beyond belief of tooth pain. As in my mouth is watering and I just broke or in a cold sweat just thinking about sitting in that vinyl covered recliner!! I have researched and decided that the cost of the immediate dentures outweighs the damage to my ego that the alternative would do. I am seeking input and advice on how to manage the fear and pain I know will be my companions throughout this journey. Thank you for reading!

Hi :welcome: to the forum.

The dentist will discuss with you your fears and will go through the treatment plan with you. Explain how you feel and what most frightens you about going to see the dentist. I think to combat the fear you will need a dentist that is willing to listen to you and hopefully you will be able to build up a trusting relationship with them. The pain should be helped with pain meds that your dentist can either prescribe or tell you which will be the best thing to buy over the counter.

I don't know if you mean pain from treatment or after pain. All treatment can be done totally pain free even the injections if done slowly. When you see a dentist make sure you move at a pace you can cope with and remember you have to consent to all and any treatment you need. :butterfly:

Hello :)
As Carole said, if you are taking such a big step you need to find a dentist you are comfortable with and one you feel able to communicate easily with, as being able to talk of your fears and ask questions about your treatment is very important,
you need to go have a check up and a chat with your chosen dentist to see what they suggest treatment wise, things are not always as bad as you think,
I have only ever had a bit of discomfort from any of my treatment and that was post extraction treatment and was comfortably managed with over the counter pain medication for a couple of days
good luck :clover:
