I recently had a root canal, a post inserted and a crown on a rear molar. Shortly afterwards, I began f eeling the tooth and was told it sounded like a fracture. It has now progressed to pain. Of the three procedures, my uneducated guess is that the one that could have caused the fracture is the insertion of the post. Any thoughts on what could have caused this tooth to fracture so soon and what are my options??

The likeliest reason for the tooth to fracture is actually the root canal, or more likely the decay process leading to the root canal being done. The tooth is seriously weakened by both parts.

Putting in the post is a further complication which probably doesn't help but it shouldn't weaken the tooth by a significant extra amount compared to the other factors.
