Hi I am really relieved I have found this site, yesterday after many years of fighting an aggressive form of gum disease (even though I brushed, mouth rinsed and had dentist cleansing) I had my remaining lower teeth removed and immediate dentures fitted. I found the last few weeks before my dentures fitted my remaining teeth loosened somewhat even though I was still cleaning them as normal and the pain was horrendous trying to eat but, now I am feeling very conscious with my dentures although they look better will they ever feel securer then they are? Will they move when I am kissing my boyfriend? He is trying to be humorous about them and making me laugh saying he isn't bothered by me having them but I am horrified at the prospect of soaking them and leaving them out at night and I want to keep them in. There are so many things going through my mind now, I lost the fight to keep my natural teeth and dentist told me he wants to replace my uppers in a few months as well now. Will I ever be able to eat my favourite foods again like steaks and ribs? Sorry for the ramblings but I need someone to like walk me through this.

I did it! Now what?

I finally went to the dentist yesterday!! It got the ball rolling as I was in desperate need of something to get done. I am pretty much a hermit crab I hate going out and meeting people and where I once was a happy bubbly person I am now a snob because I don't like talking. Anyway.... I have to...

Oh, I forgot to mention, I have wore my denture 24 hours a day for
the last 28 years. I find it hard to readjust to them if I have to put them in every morning.

thanks for the reply, its nearly 7 days since I had these in, have found 2 whitish sore spots at front does this mean it needs adjusting? or just give it alittle more time to settle from extractions. Can't chew anything just yet as too sore but I have been doing salt washes and also have Corsodyl

Usually a denture sore is very red and painful. This happens alot becuase the
gums are shrinking down and the denture is making different surface contact. What your dentist will proably do is put denture paint on your dentures, ask you to push down hard on them. The denture paint then thins out on contact
spots and allows him to see if he needs any correcting.

What are you doing for nutrition with not being able to chew?

for the first couple of days, I could only manage pots of muller rice, then graduated onto that plus cereals soaked in either milk or alittle boiled water. Have been able to manage steamed chicken in very small pieces in gravy and steamed vegetables (overdone) and mash and noodles. Anything chewable at all though is a no no due to the extraction area being too sore/painful on any pressure. My dentist just said contact him if any problems and no follow up appointment was made except that I am to go back in June for my uppers to be done. Just not sure what to expect and when to go back in as its only been a week today since it was all done.

It's now 8 days on and healing seems to be going well, but I cannot chew or bite down at all as its still painful if I do that, talking it going well and I have no pain if not attempting to eat. How long does it take so that I can chew eat something that ain't liquified mushy without painful pressure on gums? oh my last extractions were the bottom front 6 if thats any use.

lass, Recently extracted teeth will have soft tissue and hard bony tissue that has not healed (not smooth and rounded). The time for total healing may be as much as eighteen months. Thus, new dentures will become loose in a short time, and they will require relining when totally healed. Other relines may be necessary between extractions and total healing

have made an appointment for tomorrow, (just hope he doesn't think I am being a nuisance and picky) its that loose it moves when I talk now and I can move it with my tongue . There seems to be quite a substantial gap between denture and gum. I seem to be healing rapidly.
