Gum Infection or Too Aggressive Brushing

Hi, over the past few days I have been having a bit of pain and a bit of a sour taste on one side of my mouth by the molars. Upon investigating today I noticed I have some raw red spots on my gums. I do at times get a little to over zealous brushing. I was wondering if these pictures (on of the opposite healthy side and the other the bad side) would be any help in identifying which it may be. I am trying to get a dentist appointment however I am in a small town so unfortunately this means long way times. I am concerned this might be a sign of needing a root canal. I was hoping to have someone let me know either way so I may not spending so much time researching and stressing myself out. Thank you for your time

I've had similar red spots along my gum line from brushing too hard, however I'm not sure what the taste is as I've never had that. I'm sure a dentist will answer soon
