Having huge anxiety because my dentist isn't open over the weekend. I've had a lot of dental trauma due to a childhood accident meaning three root canal treatments so get ridiculously upset about dental issues.

A month ago, I had to have my bottom front tooth extracted and replaced by a bridge after a RCT failed. The extraction went OK and I was very careful with healing. Last night, however, I woke with a strong sensation in the area. And, today I can see a very tiny white pimple on the gum where the tooth was extracted. I'm freaking out! Is it even possible to get an infection on a tooth that is no longer there? The pain is very mild but I'm spiralling because my dentist is closed until Monday and emergency dentist number only for unmanageable pain. Its my mental health that can't wait rather than the pain itself!

Really looking for reassurance it can wait and is likely fine. Its been a month since extraction, no dry socket, and my dental hygiene is very thorough.

Obviously a bit of a guess since I've not seen you, but it's most likely a boney spicule, a sharp piece of bone poking through the gum as the gum shrinks down over it as it heals. Sometimes they work through the gum and can be picked out, other times they smooth over as the socket heals.

Hi there
I begged my way into an emergency slot with my dentist today, and he did an X-ray and said no signs of infection. And, like you've suggested, it looks like a bony spicule potentially working its way out. He said to monitor it but not to lose sleep over it. It's still quite uncomfortable, especially as he poked it a lot, and I'm trying to trust him and calm my brain down, but I'm still quite anxious something will go wrong.

Had same issue & it worked its way out. Could feel the sharp point before it disappeared.
