Hello, long time lurker, first time poster here.

So, 1 and a half year ago my lower molar hurt. I went to a dentist, she told me that it's decay, had a filling done, all good. However, about 3 months later I had to go for an extraction of another molar which I left untreated for a long time. When the dentist did an xray of my teeth, he told me that the previous molar (where I had a filling done) is probably dead and needs root canal. I was like yeah cool let's just get my tooth pulled and forget about what he said about the other tooth, it doesn't hurt so it's not that bad right? Fast forward to half a year ago, the tooth had some weird sensation underneath it, I felt it for a week so I went to even another dentist, he told me that it's because the tooth needs RCT. He even took something really cold and put it on a healthy tooth to see if I felt the cold sensation (I did) but when he put it on the dead tooth I felt nothing. He said that the tooth is dead and needs RCT. So, I made an appointment, which I postponed two times because I was so scared, but eventually when I went to the dentist and she took an xray of it, she said that she won't attempt to save that tooth, because the abscess is too big and I need to go to a specialist or to a dentist who has a special root canal microscope. I felt kinda relieved because again I managed to avoid the process. Anyways, I made an appointment with a more expensive dentist with the microscope and it's due on Wednesday. I'm freaking out. I'm not really scared of needles, my worst fear is sharp pain during the procedure. I just can't wrap my head around the fact that in 3 days someone is going to put tiny files down my tooth and I won't feel anything. I do realise that the tooth is dead since the cold test proved it, but still I'm worried that I might feel pain. My pain tolerance is very low as well.

Sorry for the vent, I just wanted to have it off my chest. I'll leave the photo of my abscess for you guys to see :)

looks like it may be dead inside so should be easy on you as far as anesthesia goes

I had a root canal in June and was a hot mess before hand. I can honestly say it was not a painful procedure. The numbing was probably the most uncomfortable. I had some sinus pain afterwards but my mouth and the tooth were just fine.
