How long does it take to pull out a huge back molar root canaled tooth?

Hi All.

I am having an extraction of a back huge molar tooth that is root canaled out next week on the 22 of July at 10.30am.
I am petrified, more than terrified, I suffer from panic attacks.
My doctor has given me ativan to take if I do have a panic attack but I do not want to take it, I like to be in control.
My question is this, how long does it take, after they have given you the injections, to pull out a large back molar tooth that has had root canal?

Hello,
I had a large molar taken out 2 months ago..after being numb it took about 2 minutes to come out it was painless and easy
I am scared of any thing to do with teeth so had some Ativan 1mg to take before, I took it an hour before and I was still very much in control but had no panic or emotional feelings at all, I will be using it again when I need some more treatment.
The worst part was waiting to have the tooth out the weeks before..i cancelled appointments and there was no need ... please try not to worry it really is a lot worse in out heads.
Try the Ativan, is there any way you can try it before the extraction to see how it suits you?

I can understand you being terrified, you are amongst friends here It's always the unknown that worries us the most.

I had a large Molar that had a root canal removed about 15 months ago, mine had actually broken off several years ago and the final piece broke off so it was slightly complicated. In any case, I think it took the dentist about 5 minutes to remove the offending pieces of tooth so the while procedure took less than 10 minutes I think.

What I'd also like to say to reassure you further is that I never felt a thing, just a bit of pressure but no pain then it was over. Compared a root canal it feels like seconds

I am going to try and take it easy before next tuesday gulp, but I can already feel my nerves are on edge.
I might have to have the tooth extracted sooner as it is giving me more problems than I expected.

To be honest, I am scared of trying ativan, my doctor gave me the one that you put under the tongue and it works apparently in 30 seconds... so I am almost keeping it as my final savior lol.

I dont want to use it and then it does not work, rather wait until I panic I think.

I have had other teeth extracted before, in seconds, but this one is huge.. and has root canal, I think seeing it so big in my mouth makes me think.. " how will they get it out and what if it breaks?"

I think the plan of keeping the Ativan for emergency use is a good one; I don't know why but I was actually quite calm whilst I was having mine removed.

Don't worry about it being an RCT treated tooth or about it breaking, mine was already broken but it came out pretty quickly (albeit in 3 pieces lol) and there was no pain. My dentist at the time spent longer making sure I was properly cleaned up than taking the tooth out.

I think you will be fine, but taking the fast acting Ativan with you is a great idea.

How long depend on dentist, tooth, and bone so it can vary greatly
Ativan can't work that fast, even IV takes awhile for it to work.

I have tried a quarter of an ativan before, under my tongue and it worked in less than a minute. that is pretty fast. I have never tried a full one yet.. and hope not too.

I had my tooth pulled today!!!!!! wooohooo.
It came out in literally.. 10 seconds!
I took my hubby and my mum with me and I kept my ativan right next to me.

Glad it went really well, it's amazing the relief and you end up thinking "was that it?" It's a testament to how far dentistry has come in terms of being quick and pain free with all those excellent dentists out there who are a world away from many of their predecessors.
