I have fillings in most of my teeth at 21....will I eventually need root canals etc?

I have fillings in most of my teeth at 21....will I eventually need root canals etc?

I was never told to brush my teeth when I was younger and at 20 everything went downhill . I required a lot of fillings now most of my teeth have fillings now...all of my upper teeth are filled and i have one crown. I am worried if i will need root canals in the future I heard fillings lead to root canals. Anyone has fillings and if so how long do they last? thx.

I heard heard a lot of diff stories but best thing is to ask your doc . I been reading if it's the silver ones up to 12 years. I just got 7 fillings and a cleaning done im21 I need to go back for a deep cleaning .but I'm f ing scared to go for the deep cleaning

I think all of my molar teeth have fillings in them. I didn't take care of my teeth either, so maybe it will be different for someone who does.

I'm now going down the road where I'm going to end up having 6 root canals, 1 crowned tooth (no RTC), and 2 more fillings. I already have 2 crowned teeth (premolars) and I'm going on 12+ years with the crowns with no issues, so I'm not worried.

But yes I'm starting to see that my molar teeth with fillings are needing root canal treatments. Fillings do weaken the tooth, but it takes many years with no proper home care being done.

I got all 8 of my molars filled when I was 14. I still have 6 of those fillings 34 years later in good condition. one I lost last year because a dentist who thought I needed it "fixed" caused me a vertical root fracture and it was extracted. the other one I lost a few weeks ago even though it was in good condition but I had it removed when they ground my tooth down to fit a crown to make a bridge to replace the extracted tooth.

the average life span of an amalgam filling is 15 years but there are people who have had theirs for 40 years or more.
the average lifespan of a tooth colored composite filling is 5 years though some make it 10 years or more but most insurance even the crappiest of insurances will cover their replacement at 2 years.
