Is it ok to ask for no numbing gel?

I have to have a root tip removal next friday and I'm scared to death. I'm not afraid of needles but I Hate being numb.

This is an upper tooth so as far as I remember from past experience, the numbness doesn't spread as much??

I know the needle can pinch but I don't really want the taste or feel of the gel.

Do you mean you want no anaesthetic at all, or is it just the gel they use to numb the gum for the injection that you don't want? If it's just the gel you don't want then I can't imagine that being a problem at all, many dentists don't use it all the time anyway - only when it's wanted/needed. I'm pretty sure they can give the injection without the gel with only minimal discomfort. (Note: I'm just a patient, not a dentist!)

Talk to your dentist, tell them why you don't want it, and I'm sure it'll be ok.

yeah just the gel. as much as I hate being numb I don't think they will extract without it

Yes you can ask for no gel to be used. They use it if they think it will help us if we have a fear of needles. I used to have it but now I don't. My dentist is very good at giving pain free injections she doesn't need to use it really. Having said that it was a god send when I first used to see her and it was brilliant until I got used to her and realised that she was okay without it.

Based on pt requests I have used topical, not used topical, used long lasting anesthetics, used ultra small quantities of short acting anesthesia placed only where absolutely needed to no anesthesia at all.
