IV SEDATION TUESDAY MORNING!! HELP!!!REALLY SCARED

I AM SCARED STUPID OF DENTIST, HAD AN HORRIBLE EXPIERENCE WHEN I WAS 13 DENTIST PULLED MY TEETH AND I WAS NOT COMPLETELY NUMB, AND ALTHOUGH I BEGGED HIM TO STOP HE PROCEEDED TO PULL MY TEETH SO, FOR ALMOST 17 YEARS I HAVE PUT OFF GOING TO THE DENTIST MY TEETH ARE IN HORRIBLE CONDITION AND I HAVE TO HAVE 7 PULLED UNDER IV SEDATION, I MADE THE FIRST STEP A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO TO GO TO THE DENTIST I WAS COMPLETELY TERRIFIED BUT I HAD SOME GREAT DENTIST WHO DID NOT JUDGE ME OR DEMEAN ME SO TUESDAY IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER AND I AM HAVING PANIC ATTACKS LIKE CRAZY!! ANY ADVICE ON THE PROCEDURE AND TIPS ON GETTING THROUGH THIS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!1

I'm in a similar situation as you but you are one step ahead of me. I need to get 8 teeth pulled (4 being wisdom teeth) and I, too, am deathly afraid. So scared that it is making me physically sick! I haven't made an actual appointment yet, but I did send a dentist an e-mail about sedation dentistry.
You say you're having IV sedation: What kind of preparation do you have to do for that? I wish you the very best and please post back to let us know how you made out.

Hi jmurphy and  ,

Congratulations on making that first step.  It's hard to do after such a long absence, I too went over 17 years.  It sounds as though you found a great dentist and that you are on the road to having a nice healthy smile again.

I have not had IV sedation but as I've mentioned to others on here it will definitely be the route I choose if I need more extensive work done in the future.  The accounts I've read on it are very positive.  Some say they are so unaware that they feel as they slept through it all while others comment that they knew what was going on but felt relaxed through it all.  Either way it would be a success for me because much of my problem is just that anxious feeling which also exaggerates my gag reflex.  

I would love to give you the magic formula to get rid of the panic feelings but I experienced that for each of my appts and only recently have felt them subside when I have to go in for cleanings/check-ups.  I did a lot of reading on here and the stories helped me to believe I could do it.  I also tried to keep busy by doing things I enjoy, walking the dogs, taking drives in the country, anything other than sit around dwelling on it.  Last but not least I reminded myself that each and every appt. was only a small fraction of time out of the day.  In a years time I was going to spend about 17 hours out of 8,760 doing something dental related.  How's that for putting things in perspective?  

You've made a great start and you are going to do fine on Tuesday.  I'll send positive wishes your way.  I do hope that you will come back and post a success story to let us know how everything goes.
