Please help.

I am looking for ANY laws that make dentist accountable for their action. I know there's the GDC guidelines but that's not enshrined in state law, or is it?

There must be something out there!

Any pointers in the right direction will help thanks.

Also, if anyone is taking legal action against a dentist for malpractice/deception, etc. please direct to your stories. (I will try to scour this forum for help later).

thx!

The GDC have the power to strike dentists off the dental register and it costs you nothing to make a complaint to them about a practitioner. However they have no power with regard to financial matters..they cannot order an NHS dentist to repay you the fees or pay compensation...but power to remove their livelihood is a fairly big stick I would say. They can also order re-training.

There's also a new system for private dentistry disputes and it does recommend fee refunds where deemed appropriate:

If you're planning to go down the legal route, you could ask on moneysavingexpert.com (I believe they have a dentist there who answers questions) or [broken link removed].
Obviously, if you're planning to take this further, there may be legal expenses involved.

As Brit has mentioned, the Dental Complaints Service may be able to help if the treatment was done privately. This would not involve lawyers and they can help you get a refund of fees or a contribution towards any remedial treatment you may need, up to the value of the amount you have paid for the original treatment.
