Technically yes, but a much easier/cheaper way is through a simple dental xray.

Still it is very safe and harmless, because we are dealing with extremely low amounts of radiation. MRI is extremely expansive, and not the best for tracking hard tissue thus not the best imaging technique for dentistry.

With the development of faster films and collimation a full set of xrays has less radiation than an hour in the sun.

And of course there are health & safety considerations for non-ionising radiation (such as that produced by MRI scanners), so we shouldn't really think along the lines of "ionising radiation bad, non-ionising radiation good".

As Dr Daniel has said, at the energies used for diagnosis (and with digital film technology and taking into account that only a really small area of our body is exposed), I'd pick the x-ray every time. It's much quicker and far less hassle, too.

Btw, I've worked with and around ionising radiation since...ooohhh...1996, and this would be my choice.
