I posted last week about my rearmost upper tooth. I had an infection and got antibiotics from the out of hours clinic but they said as it has already been root treated and the wisdom tooth is sitting right on top of it, I will probably need it to come out and suggested I see my own dentist this week.

Well, I went to my own dentist today and they are not taking it out yet and have said to "see how it goes". If I get pain in it again, they said they will have to send me to the hospital to get it out. Now I am panicking even more. Does that mean I will need an operation and to be sedated?

:(

I am not a dentist, but I think what your dentist is saying to you is that it is better for someone that is used to dealing with this kind of extraction to do it. Whether or not you would be sedated when the time comes, you would be able to discuss with the person you see at the hospital. If it does flair up again go straight to the dentist or hospital as you did before and get some antibiotics, then take it from there. I hope you are out of pain at the moment, so just enjoy being pain free and worry about the tooth coming out if it comes to that.

Even if the worse happens and it does flair up again, try not to worry too much, they will take every care to make you feel comfortable. :butterfly:

Are you afraid of sedation or GA?

Yes I am afraid of GA. I might never wake up! I also panic in case something goes wrong because of the mess my old dentist did to my teeth last year.

This is something you would need to discuss with them if it does flair up again. The surgeons at the hospital are very good and do this everyday. To them yours would be so easy, they would be able to put your mind at rest on the GA fear, I think this is a common fear in general be it for teeth or other parts of the body.

If the tooth is settled at the moment you may be lucky and it might behave it's self, but if it doesn't talk to them and explain they are very good and are used to dealing with this fear. They will be able to help you get the tooth extracted. It will also be so quick, you will kick yourself for the stress you are putting yourself under.

The tooth may not even have to be removed, wait get on with other things and deal with it if it comes up. I know this is very hard to do, but don't let it ruin all the good things you will be doing now you are pain free.

I wish you well, hopefully a dentist will be on later and put your mind at rest, or you could contact your dentist and have a word with him again if you are worried. It can't be too bad if they are happy to leave it. I know you said that a previous dentist messed your mouth up, I had this too but all we can do is to find a dentist we feel we can trust and work with them.

If you don't feel happy with your dentists decision you can always get a second opinion :butterfly:try to relax a bit.
