I’ve always had bad teeth. I use to have a nice dentist who I trusted. And my health improved but when he left I didn’t trust the new one n ran away kept canceling appointments then I moved last year had some bad experiences first dentist I saw thought it was okay to not touch my teeth. Second one would treat me but she dropped filling material in my mouth. Third one managed to extract all teeth I needed extracting. But that was a year ago n my teeth have continued to crumble I have a partial bottom denture that doesn’t fit the front teeth are two high n clash with my natural teeth at the top I’ve decided to make an appointment after the bank holiday with a dentist that specialises in phobias I’m 26 but I think I’ll need at least one more tooth extracted probably more as my last one extracted one that didn’t look to bad the extraction for that tooth was painful and difficult i. Just scared of being judged. As my teeth are horrible I don’t want dentures but I can’t afford implants I just don’t want to wait till I’m agony again

Hi Andy91xx,

not to wait till you're in agony again is a great decision and you can already give yourself a pat on the back for that. This approach is what allows you to look at your new dentist critically and carefully chose wether you can imagine being treated there or not. It also gives you some time to start with easy procedures to gain some confidence step by step instead of having to go accept a difficult treatment right away due to emergency and pain.
You had a nice dentist once and I am sure you will find a nice one again, it will just need a bit of searching. Hope the one you are considering now will be the right one.
To your fear of judgment. A dentist who focuses on nervous patients will be familiar with people having this fear and will do his/her best to make you feel welcomed and accepted. Not being able to afford implants is not unusual so your dentist will understand this too. Sadly dentistry can get expensive and the aim here is to work within your possibilities with the support of your dentist. If you feel up to it, you could let your practice know that being judged is one of your fears so that they know beforehand.

All the best wishes and keep us posted

I agree with Enerate completely you should give yourself a pat on the back despite all the hard experiences you have had you are ready to try again and help yourself and your teeth regardless of the fear.. It is hard. and I myself have a huge fear of judgement.. just recently I was very open with my current dentist about my fears he would want to "fire me" or reject me as a patient because I was so bad .. He really encouraged me he would not do this and told me "You're your own worst judge" and this is true on so many levels of life not just dentistry. So have a genuine candid conversation if you feel safe with the dentist.. and if they respond well that is great you can be more comfortable. Its great you got one that specializes in phobias! I also know what you mean about finances and implants. its hard.. and discouraging the cost of implants. I have one I worked through last year and did it step by step making payments . But it is hard to fit in the budget for sure.. I wish you the best of luck and hope things go well for you in finding out how they can help and that it won't be too much!!
