Need alot of dental work done and have questions?

I can't remember in detail everything that I need done,but just about every tooth is in some kind of trouble. He said that I need some extractions, root canals,crowns and fillings. The first question I have is that some of them need root canals and crowns. How is a tooth built up for a crown? What is put in the tooth to build it up and exactly what does built up mean? He also said that I need a bridge. I am so upset and confused right now after coming back from the dentist it is going to take me a while to digest it all. Plus I also need to get rid of a infection. If I can think of some more questions I will post later as I think of them.

Usually cores are built up for crowns in either plastic or amalgam. I'm not sure why it's a big deal for you?

I think the quantity of the treatment has you flummaxed there aren't many clear questions there other than about the build up of the crown.

Don't be too stressed about all of the treatment. All treatments will be done pain free. Do you know when you go back to start treatment. Have you got something to treat the infection ?

I am sure as a phobic it was a big deal for you going and then hearing everything that needs doing ,it always seems like lots but just take things one step at a time and keep up a good two way partnership with your dentist and together you will work your way back to a healthy mouth, good luck

The dentist said I would need a gingivectomy on my lower left jaw. That sounds scary and like it will hurt. Is it as bad as it sounds. That makes me nervous.

It's not that bad to be honest, depends a bit on why it's being done?

Not unusual to need some crown lengthening on a lower second molar.

The dentist should be able to reassure you that none of the treatment will hurt while you are being treated. It is their job to make sure you are numb. If you do feel anything let them know immediately so your anaesthetic can be topped up.
You may have some afterpain but this can usually be kept at bay by taking pain meds or sometimes they won't even be needed.
