Two days ago I got all my teeth out, including wisdoms, and was fitted with dentures. I was glad it's over - I am glad it's over, and I'm looking forward to recovery, but I'm not in a very good mood.

[Warning for a bit gross] I'm so horribly swollen and oozy. I woke up to a blood-stained pillow this morning. My throat really hurts, making eating impossible. My cheeks look like melons.

Worst of all, I can't wear the dentures at the moment. I took them out yesterday to clean them for the first time, and I can't handle wearing them again. The top one is chafing at my gums something awful, and it's agony. I knew that would probably happen, and that it would need to be adjusted, but it's Easter weekend so I don't know when I'm gonna get back to the dentist to have it fixed.

Worst of all, I don't even like the dentures. I hate the colour they made them. Unlike relining, I guess it'll be months and months until I can get that sorted, so that really sucks. I mean sure it's better than what was before, but I was just really hoping to actually like them. That would make all this pain and misery and discomfort worth it. Right now, I don't really feel like it's worth it. I'm just depressed and angry.

Hello, there. Thank you for posting a description of your problem. There's nothing wrong w/ ranting & venting on here; that's one of the reasons this forum was established. I can't relate to your situation, but I do want to offer my sympathies. Did the dentist leave you any anti-pain medications to take? You may also want to try ibuprofen (e.g., Advil) or acetaminophen (e.g., Tylenol) and even topical numbing gel (e.g., Anbesol) to relieve the irritation. As soon as you get the opportunity, contact the dentist for a follow-up appt. and describe the problem you experienced w/ the dentures. If they won't fit properly, ask if they can adjust them or even make a new one at no extra cost. Hope everything goes really well for you. God bless.

I know the feeling. I just had all my uppers taken out his past Monday. The first 3-4 days were the worst. The pain and swelling got better with each day and today (Saturday) was the first day I was virtually pain free. The stitches are bugging me but they are starting to dissolve. I have sores from them rubbing on my cheeks and the injection sites from the shots are sore. I had over 12!
I remember 2-3 days after the surgery, I was crying and said this was the worst thing I had ever done.. I haven't been able to get my denture in. It looks ugly to me. Teeth are just not right. I go back on Monday for a post-op visit and I hope to get the dentures fixed because I have no upper teeth and I am very self conscious over it...

But it will get better... The pain and swelling will subside... Hang in there

Thanks for your words, Rusty. It's always good to hear from someone who knows exactly how awful you feel, and can really commiserate. I'm glad your pain and swelling is not a bother any more and sorry to hear you're having trouble with the denture. The first ones are meant to be temporary though anyway. In a few months time we should have something better and more permanent. You hang in there too!

I was sent a letter telling me my next appointment is apparently the 15th may! Almost an entire month away. That's just ridiculous - I can't go for a month having all my teeth out without having any kind of follow up. Pretty annoyed about that, but I'll have to wait until after the weekend before phoning them.

My swelling is still pretty bad today. The pain isn't so bothersome, except for my throat, which still hurts. I'm kind of concerned about that. :(
