Hi

I have just been diagnosed with Periodontal Disease a few weeks ago I am 45 female, I have moderate bone loss and from x-rays the hygienist is thinking maybe 5s for pocket depth. But will do a full exam with the first half deep clean to find out more. I also clench and grind and have trouble with mouth guards so haven't been wearing one recently.

I am so terrified and anxious, I hadn't been to a dentist in years, I have a fear of dentists, although this dentist and hygienist seem nice and really understanding. I am devastated and fearful of the disease and losing my teeth.

I had to go to my doctor for antidepressants for anxiety but I am still struggling mentally.

My dentist hasn't suggested a periodontist yet, I am not sure if I should consider seeing one or just stick with them for a while and see how I go after the deep clean. The cost is already going to hurt and I don't have any private cover for major periodontal dental yet.

I have become obsessed with cleaning my teeth, got a new electric toothbrush, using interdental brushes and flossing all twice a day. I find all mouthwashes irritate my gums but I did use chlorhexidine for 2 weeks which helped and breath is much better. I can really notice the difference, feels cleaner and not as much bleeding, I can sadly see triangles now obviously gum swelling going down and cleaning the plaque between teeth.
