Had a tooth extracted on Feb 16th, the very last lower left molar. Still swollen and sore 4 weeks later, went back to dentist who took xrays and said root tip was left. He went in and said he got it all out after a LOT of digging and scarping and drilling or whatever he was doing on there. It took a bit of time. This was March 16th. Today, March 24, 8 days later, the side of the extraction site is still a little puffy and it is sore and tender when I touch it with my tongue. I want to know if it is normal for this to be still sore after 8 days? No pain, just very sore and tender. He said he got it all out but now I am wondering if he really did because after the extraction he said he got everything too but it remained sore for 4 weeks and that's what made me go back. Is it possible the difficult root tip work gave me an ulcer on the site? Or the salt rinses? I have heard that salt can sometimes cause irritation or ulcers, as well as lemon juice (I drink lemon water very morning). Can anyone tell me if this is normal healing or should I be concerned? I am terrified of having to go back again and hear more bad news!

Hi DebbieC55,

At this stage, it is within the realms of normal healing. In these situation the additional trauma could cause and ulcer in the area. Carry on with the Saltwater and it should settle down nicely.
