Not sure what to expect at my crown appointment?

Hello!

I'm feeling really anxious because I'm not sure what to expect tomorrow. So about a year ago I had a root canal. Afterwards, the dentist put a filling of some sort to protect it before I get a crown. To make a long story short, the dentist had no availability for months and in that time I moved away, got a new job and had to wait for the new insurance to kick in.

About 3 weeks ago, I randomly started feeling pain on that tooth when I would chew on it. Now, as of a week ago, the pain is gone, I can chew there again no problem. It still does feel a little weird when I run my tongue over it or brush over it, I think the temporary filling fell out. I have an appointment tomorrow, it's a 90 minute appointment and I just want to know what to expect to ease my fears.

I feel like I shouldn't be so anxious because I already went through the root canal, but I have no idea what's going to happen. Are they going to give me a crown right then and there? Or will they need to do more drilling? Will they need to re-do the root canal??

There's going to be a lot of "maybes" in this answer sorry.
1) Depends on the dentist. Not many will do a crown on a first appointment with a new patient. First maybe...
2) If they're going to do a crown then definitely more drilling required. But there's no nerve in that tooth, so no need for local, if that's an issue for you.
3) Another maybe, sorry. Depends if the root filling has been exposed to your mouth and how much it has been compromised by that.

@yessuh hey ive just had crown prep done over a week ago. Waiting for my permanent crowns to be made. Only difference is my teeth are all alive I have had a root canal tooth crowned before though.

It’s basically like a filling first they take an impression so a temporary crown can be made (although my dentist didn’t) then they file the tooth down which is no different from a filling, they also may remove abit of gum tissue to get a good seal round the crown (you won’t need Anesthesia for the drilling a RCT tooth but the gum work maybe abit uncomfortable if you don’t) then they take a second impression of the filed down tooth with silicon so it needs to stay in abit longer then the first impression if you have one.

Finally they prepare a temporary crown using the first impression or in my case he squirted some material over my teeth and moulded it into a tooth shape then cement these temporary crowns on then two weeks later you have a second appointment where they remove the temporary crown and fit the permeant crown

Some dentists have machines that make a permant crown the same day but I have no experience of that
