Terrified and not sure what to expect!

Hello all!

I went in for an emergency dental appointment last week for an infected wisdom tooth that was causing me a lot of pain! I was given antibiotics and asked to make another appointment as soon as possible. Now I haven't been in 8 years and have been putting it off but I'm aware there's plenty of work to be done, several teeth are probably beyond repair and there's plenty of cavities. The infection has gone down but unfortunately at the same time one of the teeth next to it has cracked and has been causing me almost as much pain as the wisdom tooth!

What can I expect tomorrow at my appointment? Will they do any work straight away or will they just draw up a dental plan to begin with? I'm slightly concerned about having any work done before Christmas in case there's any follow up problems! Is this normal and would the dentist be ok with this? Another silly question is whether all my treatment will fall under one band?

Hi there and welcome.

Did they explain what work needs to be done to sort the issue and get you out of pain? Also did they explain the purpose of the appointment tomorrow; if they have prescribed antibiotics and the infection is under control I would think they will be looking to get you sorted.

I know it's not easy but please try not to worry, dentistry has changed a lot in the last few years and the dentists along with it so it's possible for pretty much everything to be done totally painlessly, If I were in your position I would go and ask them to explain everything, don't forget you are the one in control and you don't have to consent to any work if you don't feel up to it. If you have a good caring dentist (s)he will be pleased to explain everything and to accommodate you making the experience as good as it can be.
