Hello. I hope I can get an answer that won't stress me out. On Jan 27, so about 3.5 weeks ago, I had a root canal on my left premolar. I had sedation and it went well. I was a little tender but it seemed better and got better each day. I had a temp crown on that tooth prior that had been on since November. It took awhile to get into the Endo. My endo said to wait about 4 weeks to get the perm crown on. Well at two weeks, my temp crown kept falling off so I went back to my dentist (not the endo) to get another temp crown until it settled before I put on my perm crown. Well the tech asked me if I wanted just to get get my perm crown since it had been two weeks They said I wouldn't need to be numbed because the tooth should be settled and/or dead since it had the root canal. Well, I had used some of that dentek temp stuff to put on the temp crown and she had to scrape some of it off before they removed my temp filling. She scraped one spot and it felt a sharp pain, like the metal hit a nerve. They said it was probably the gum and moved on. The dentist came back and drilled on the tooth a little to get the temp filling out and at the end of that I got another sharp pain. But she was done, so they said they were going to fill it. They started to pack in the filling material and it was so painful that they couldn't continue. They had to put temp medicated filling in it and put a temp crown on it. I was traumatized. I like this dentist, but she really wasn't listening. She said when they put the perm crown on, they will numb me to work on the tooth. The tooth was very sore after this and it was like the day after the rooth canal all over again. But it seemed to calm down after a few days. Its been about a week and a half since that happened and now my jaw on that side is hurting again, the tooth next to it (the molar) is hurting as much or more. My whole jaw hurts. I will say I have TMJ symptoms and I haven't felt well for a few days. Its almost like its getting worse again, or the tooth next to it is. I don't know if the temp filling underneath has degraded or if I just maybe have ground on it.
The thing is, the appt with my dentist, who has never hurt me, gave me so much trauma, I'm just ready to have the tooth pulled at this point. I guess I want to know if its normal for the tooth to take this long to calm down (especially since they did what they did made it start hurting all over again.) It was doing fine until they did this to me. The tech was like, wow thats concerning that it still hurts like that, it shouldn't. The doctor said sometimes it takes longer to calm down. The nerve was up against that temp crown for several months and it was very tender, so by the time they did the root canal, it had been tender for awhile. They gave me antibiotics after my root canal, and I will add that I got sick in the chair in the middle of the procedure because of the nitrous. The endo said the procedure was a success and the dentist said my films looked good.
But now I'm wondering what is going on with my tooth. The root canal tooth is tender, but isn't bad, but the tooth next to it is pretty sore to push on. My jaw hurts though, which could be my TMJ, but I was laying on my couch on that side and I felt a pain in that back tooth. I know I should probably call my endo back or the dentist, but I'm nervous. It took all my energy just to go through this process to begin with and I thought the worst was over, but now I'm not so sure.
Is having pain tenderness like this normal after this time? Especially since they hurt me like a week ago? It seemed to start hurting yesterday and today because I pushed on that that back molar (behind the root canal tooth). It isn't excruciating, but its that dull ache I've had off and on for months back again. I'm so exhausted by all this!
