Upper Partial Fitted today can someone read this and help please.

Hello people i'll be making a full story for people who's scared of dentists to read at some point this week right now i'm scared terrified and need some assurance

Today i had 5 upper teeth out my partial denture went in fine, great i thought
went about 3 hours everything fine so then it come to eating.

Now when i bite down on anything be it bread fluffy cake anything
the partial that is up in the top sockets feel like someone is shoving a knife into the sockets i cannot chew.

i tried chewing with the back teeth bottom lower and top back but regardless where i chew or what side it presses up on the partial which then the fake tooth on the partial which is inside the open socket just obviously pushes up wards

i have googled the life out of the web for "upper partial cannot chew" all kinds of terms but not a single result is coming back with this.

the fake tooth goes into the socket so it looks like it comes out naturally
laws of commons sense says any pressure biting down will push this tooth into the socket which then just opens up and bleeds.

can someone help me here is it because i've just had the surgery and there's holes in my gums the size of tennis balls [over exadurating there] but you know what i mean.

will i eventually be-able to chew with these partials?

the pain biting down with them on any food at all even tuna is just like someone shoving a pointy knife into the socket.

please help as for now all i'm eating is soups, custards, i need some proper food of some kind i'm starving and now getting real scared.

Hi No-One2K -

I don't think you are supposed to be eating anything but soft foods (soups, puddings, yogurts, etc) for the first few days. If you just had your extractions today, even though you have a partial denture in already, you still must give your mouth a chance to heal.

The immediate denture helps with the healing, but I don't think it is meant to be used for eating right away. You'll have to work yourself up to sandwiches and the like after days, not hours. I've got a full top denture, so I've no experience with a partial yet, but it was an immediate, and I still had to work up to solid food.

It will take time to learn how to eat with a denture, but the pain you are going through sounds like it is because of the extractions being done, not the denture itself.

I'm sure there will be other replies to your question, but for now, I think you should stick with the soups, and stuff. Hope this helps....

thank you for the reply just wondering if anyone else has a partial upper denture and experienced this agonising pain when biting down.

see my logic is this regardless how long the socket takes to heal that plastic part of the palate with the fake tooth is always going to sit in that socket.

any force is going to shove that sharp plastic into the socket lol
so i dont get how it is ever supposed to be good enough to bite down and chew.

more replies the better please
