PLease share your iv sedation experiences with me

I'm having it on Monday for a surgical extraction, and I am terrified.

I had an iv when I gave birth to my son, so I'm not terrified of the iv needle itself, but I've never been 'put under' before for anything and I don't know what to expect.

The surgeon wasn't particularly warm or reassuring so I really hope he'll just walk in, and put the IV in ASAP so I don't have to deal with him or the assistants making small talk and giving me those pitying looks they always do when my phobia takes hold.

I'm also worried that it won't sedate me deeply enough, and I'll wake up at some point and see things I don't want to see or feel pain.

Does the sedative wear off fairly quickly? I don't want to say anything stupid afterwards (because it's anyone's guess what would come out).

It was so good! Can't remember a thing so I can't really say much. After the procedure (I had 3 teeth out) I was able to go home within 10 minutes.
Apparently I was telling the dentist how much I love certain actors and how much I liked his hair (I even tried touching it ?) . But that was just after he put the IV in.
I wouldn't worry too much. You won't feel a thing and it'll be over before you know it. I just shut my eyes and then it was done. Good luck!

about 12 hrs until my appt. I've had a few meltdowns.

I'm so terrified that the sedation wont work properly, and I'll be aware of everything and have more bad memories to cope with.

I'm also worried that b/c I'll be sedated, the surgeon wont be gentle with the LA injections b/c he'll just be like "Well she wont remember this".

I'm also worried that I'll act idiotic like all those people on YouTube after dental sedation


Lastly, everything thats ever been done to this tooth has been painful for me, so Im worried that it'll get infected or develop dry socket or something

Hi.

I've had IV sedation before. I had it once when I had 8 extractions at once. There was no way I was going to be awake for that. I had all 4 wisdom teeth out (2 of which were impacted) and 4 other teeth extracted because my mouth was over crowded. This was part of my braces treatment and preparation for a corrective double jaw surgery.

IV sedation was fine for me. The worst part is before they start, just the anxiety of the procedure and waiting to be put under. I'd do it again if I could afford it.
