Problem crown please help me asap

Hi everyone, i'm new to this forum so please bear with me. I have crowns which i have had for years fitted over bottom front teeth. One of the crowns keeps getting loose an infected andd i have to have it fixed over and over, after being referred to a dental hospital for xray to see whats going on, they said my own tooth root is broken causing infections and reccommend to my dentist i have tooth removed and a one tooth bridge put in. This is where my problem begins, my dentist said i cannot get bridge on nhs so is putting a one tooth denture in instead. They are putting the denture in without removing my old tooth so i think i am still going to have infections in my gum. My dentist says that is the only treatment they can do for free. Is there anything i can do please help i would prefer a bridge

You have come to the right place for any support and advice that you need. I am sorry that you are having these problems.

I have just gone onto the NHS choices website and have copied below what the third pay band of treatment covers, but please check it out yourself for more information on the bands etc.

There are three standard charges for all NHS dental treatments:

• Band 1 course of treatment – £17.50
  This covers an examination, diagnosis (including X-rays), advice on how to prevent future problems, a scale and polish if needed, and application of fluoride varnish or fissure sealant.
• Band 2 course of treatment – £48.00
  This covers everything listed in Band 1 above, plus any further treatment such as fillings, root canal work or removal of teeth.
• Band 3 course of treatment – £209.00
  This covers everything listed in Bands 1 and 2 above, plus crowns, dentures and bridges.

I hope this is of some help, and am wondering if it would be worth you getting another opinion from another NHS dentist?

HI, thankyou for your quick reply, looking at your reply and band 3 its sound like if i pay £209 i can have a bridge done, is that correct? I am going dentist today to have denture pallet fitted which will make me gag for sure but because they are not taking my own broken tooth out i will still be prone to infections wont i. What should i do? I have asked will she be taking it out but she said she doesnt need to. Also should i mention having a bridge instead with that band 3 or not, i need to have questions and answers before i go at 2 today

Unless NHS regs have changed a lot down South, then you can't have a bridge immediately for a set period, think it's 4 months after an extraction. It might be possible to not need the root extracted, if the top of the root canal can be sealed up properly. It's hard to say without seeing an x-ray.

No worries, I just happened to see your query when I came on. I don't have enough knowledge with regards to NHS charges etc, and there are others on here that have far more knowledge than me, and I would hate to give you wrong information. I copied and pasted that info on the banding charges from the NHS Choices website and so it must be right, but hopefully someone else will chip in with more precise info for you.

I am also not a dentist, and don't know the in's and out's of teeth, so a dental professional would be the best person to advise you on that, although without seeing your teeth etc, it may be difficult. Can you take a written list of your questions that you need answers to? That would be helpful. What time is your appointment?

After seeing a dental special when i was referred in february, he said the root is all broken and with it having root canal treatment in the past it would not help to do it again because of how much the tooth is damaged, that is why he reccommended my dentist to do a one tooth bridge, my bottom four front teeth are cowns but only this one has a problem. After goin back to my dentist she said because i have othervcrowns already on the bottom next to this problem one then i cant have bridge especially on nhs and said denture is my only option, should i have this broken root taken out my appointment is at 2pm thankyou so much for your advice
