So long story short, i dont have best teeth, went to the dentist when i was 9 to get rid of these cavities on the front and they do have holes in them. Got two small ones in the middle of the front teeth and at the end of the front teeth that are bigger. and the 2 teeths after the fron two got major cavities the one on the left is really black, the dentist went to take xrays, and needless to say i dont have the best gag reflix when he was sticking that paper in the back of my teeth to take the xrays and after 30 mins he gave up and couldn't do it, and since then i try to take care of my teeth, whe i was a kid never thought hard of healthy teeth, but im 29 now and im finally gonna get dental so i can go, im the 20 years i have never smiled because of my teeth and i was always scared to go and get judge by the dentist and embarrassed esp if they have to get rid of my 2 front teeth,

Question basically is when i go is there something a dentist can do when he tries to take my xrays? im always coughing and gagging when he sticks that thing back there to take the xrays or is there something different now they do? i also have 4 wisdom teeth 3 fully grown and one that is just pointy that is slowing growing i know i need taken out. i know i have a ton of cavities in my mouth since i never went to a dentist because i was always scared and esp now if i brush my teeth i bleed so i know i prob have something else wrong and i also have receeding gums from brushing hard because i've been always trying to keep clean, someone help me with this prob with fear of having things put in my mouth. is there something they could put me to sleep?
thanks.

Hi welcome to the forum, the first thing to do is decide where you want to go and see a dentist. You can e mail a few and explain like you have on here and ask them if they are able to help you, also state that you do want to get your teeth treated and want to be able to smile with confidence.
See what comes back then pick one you like the sound of. If you feel comfortable with the dentist you have chosen then take it from there, if you don't find another one.

I am not a dentist so I cannot answer you on what is the best treatment and a dentist would have to see you to be able to do this too.

Treatment is pain free these days with the right dentist, and a sympathetic dentist will work with you to get the treatment you need at a pace that suits you.

Good luck :clover::clover::clover::clover::clover: let us know how you get on.

thank you! im just really afraid. the first and last time i went doing xrays of 30 mins trying to take it my dentist gave up. i dont have good gag reflex so its been 20 years so im wondering now days are xrays done differently.
I will once i get my dental in im just nevous! but your message back kinda clam my nerves down a little, now im just scared of seeing a dentist to show him my teeth!

X rays can be done digitally today but you still have to have a piece in your mouth, I do think the dentist will do all they can to help you with this as it does seem to be a common problem. If they make you feel bad get another dentist you deserve to be treated properly and not be made to feel uncomfortable.

Don't worry about showing your teeth either, they have seen much worse. They see good and bad teeth all day, and won't be shocked or horrified at yours.

The best thing you can do is to go to a first appointment and they only usually have a look if you don't like the probe (the pointy tool) ask them not to use it, they do x rays as well but if you don't feel you can face it on the first visit explain you would rather do it next time and explain why, if you haven't contacted them be e mail tell them you are nervous.

Treat the first visit as a meet and greet and see how you feel, if you feel you can work with this dentist, it will get easier the more you go. I don't know what they can do about the gagging but they do have tricks up their sleeves to help us with lots of things, so who knows it might not be as bad as you think. You can give it a try and see how it goes.

I wish you all the best, :grouphug:

now im just scared of seeing a dentist to show him my teeth!

Don't worry about that! Dentists just love to make teeth look better:D
Have you had a look at the section on gagging on here?
